Pike Red Devils Open Gym Notebook:

Pike High School on the Northwest side of Indianapolis is one of the most legendary high school programs in the state of Indiana. Coach Jeff Teague enters his third season as the head guy at his alma mater and expectations couldn't be any higher. Talented returners including two nationally ranked juniors alongside two talented transfers in and it's easy to see why the Red Devils are considered the most talented team in the state on paper. Here is everything I saw at open gym on Wednesday:   KEY RETURNERS:    A Five-Star recruit in the class of 2027 National Rankings, [player_tooltip player_id='2266896' first='Isaiah' last='Hill'] is only scratching the surface of what he could become as a basketball player. Elite rim protecting big that also excels as a rim runner and an excellent lob threat. Possesses a smooth jumper with improving range that extends out to the three-point line. Becoming more comfortable handling the ball, but knows what makes him great and sticks to it pretty well. Should be in for a huge junior season for the Top Ranked player in the state for the 2027 class.     National Four-Star recruit coming as impressive of a summer as any player in the country after being named EYBL E16 Peach Jam MVP. Jahari is a score first guard that is in attack mode from the jump. Confident shooter with deep range that can shoot off the catch or off the dribble. Shifty handle with a quick first step helps him create space and angles to get to his spot where he can score in a variety of different ways. Has the ability to rise up in the midrange or get all the way to the rim and finish with either hand. Also has the athleticism to get off the floor quickly and punch it home. Returning leading scorer for the Red Devils primed for a huge season.     Physical senior forward that does that does all the dirty work for this team. High level rebounder on both ends of the floor. Has the ability to play inside-out. Really good screen setter that rolls hard and catches everything. Plays under control and is able to play through contact and finish around the rim. Vocal leader for this team that holds everyone accountable. Extremely important piece for this Pike team to achieve their goals.     This was my first time getting to see the lefty-handed senior guard and he is the one I walked away impressed with the most. Shifty guard that pushes the pace, but understands the importance of changing speeds. Electric in transition with good court vision and a knack for scoring in a variety of different ways. Showed the ability to stop on a dime and rise up from three in transition. He plays with a ton of confidence and will be a huge part of the backcourt this season.     Another left-handed veteran guard that that plays with lots of confidence and doesn't get sped up. TJ was confident with the ball in his hands being a dual threat score and facilitate guard for his team. Operated the pick and roll really well being aggressive and driving hard off the pick. Scans the floor and takes what the defense gives him. Solid backcourt depth piece that will have big moments this season.     Steady depth piece at the guard that spot that made plays on both ends of the floor during the scrimmage portion of open gym. True point guard that did a good job getting his teammates in position to score. Solid shooter off the catch. If he puts it on the floor, he uses a soft touch in the lane.Plays under control and should provide a spark off the bench this season for the Red Devils.    KEY TRANSFERS:    Extremely skilled small forward that impacts the game on both ends. What stood out the most to me was his passing ability at his size. Really comfortable with the ball in his hands making plays. Streaky shooter from the outside, but possesses a good looking shot that he shoots with confidence. Does a good job getting downhill and finishing through contact. Will be one of the teams better defenders on the perimeter due to his size, strength, and versatility in guarding all over the floor.     [player_tooltip player_id='2538892' first='Landon' last='Lampley'] is a highlight reel waiting to happen. The 6'6” sophomore wing is a high motor wing that is in attack mode nonstop. He's a relentless driver that is able to finish at the rim through contact in a variety of different ways. He's an explosive athlete that once he's able to take off, he's looking to finish above the rim every chance he can. Loads of defensive potential that should be able to guard multiple positions. Most nights will be a matchup nightmare for his opponent.    KEY ADDITION:    Another sophomore wing that knows how to use his athleticism to his advantage. Bouncy that is much better as a play finisher than a play starter. Fluid athlete that showed he's a very good cutter off the ball. Active on both ends of the floor. Versatile defender that uses his length and size. Should be a guy that comes in off the bench and is able to wreak havoc on opposing offenses.
