The high school season starts up next week and several Freshmen are expected to make major impacts this upcoming season. The early indications are that this 2029 class is extremely good. There are a few players who had D1 scholarship offers before they entered the high school hallways. This list is definitely going to change A TON over the next 4 years. And there are likely multiple players who will finish top ten in the class that no one on the Prep Hoops staff has seen yet. Here's a look at numbers 6-10 in the inaugural rankings.

Davis is not a name you hear mentioned about often as a kid at the top of this class but he is the single most impressive player I have seen live in this group, so far. AD is actually known more for his football prowess as a big, dual threat quarterback but I think he projects as a D1 basketball player, too. A big time athlete who can slash from the wing and get to the bucket, Anthony has really big time potential.

Mayes had a big 8th grade season for St Mary last year and looks to have a bigger year this year. Griffin is comfortable playing on or off of the ball and can excel at either. While he's not a player that I've been able to see a whole lot, Mayes has a lot of potential and is a name to monitor moving forward because he could be a difference maker in the first region as soon as this season.

Johnson is one of the more physically developed and strongest kids in this class, right now. Jaden is capable of playing around the bucket or stepping out and putting the ball on the floor. I'd like to see him improve as a shooter but what I've seen so far looks like he can keep a defense honest. If he continues developing wing skills and/or growing, Jaden is one of the potential top players in the class, long term.

Owens is another really good point guard in this class. He's an excellent finisher at the rim and a talented playmaker. It remains to be seen how much he plays with the ball in his hands this year because the Boyd County roster is so loaded but Alijah has a very high ceiling, long term. I'd like to see how well Owens shoots the ball but he hasn't really had to in the times I've seen him play since he can get past opposing guards fairly easily. Certainly a name to keep up with this season and beyond.

CJ is another really good guard in a class full of really good guards. Wired to score at a high rate, Sweeney is going to be expected to do A LOT for Manual this year and he is likely more than capable. CJ is a player who I've not been able to see live more than once so far but his film is impressive. Top ten is a good starting point for him and we could see Sweeney move up these rankings in the future after our staff gets more opportunities to see him play.
