The high school season starts up next week and several Freshmen are expected to make major impacts this upcoming season. The early indications are that this 2029 class is extremely good. There are a few players who had D1 scholarship offers before they entered the high school hallways. This list is definitely going to change A TON over the next 4 years. And there are likely multiple players who will finish top ten in the class that no one on the Prep Hoops staff has seen yet. Here's a look at the first ever top five in the 2029 class.

It's obviously super early but Grivna looks like a top 30 talent in the nation in this class. Mason is a fluid athlete and not super clumsy like most bigs his age. A high floor/high ceiling player, the 6'10 Grivna is already a really good rim protector with strong defensive instincts. Likely still growing and will eventually pass the 7 foot mark, Mason has the potential to be the best Center to come out of Kentucky in a while. He's got a long way to go but Grivna is more advanced than Malachi Moreno was at the same age.

Ty was the best player at our Freshman camp this fall and has established himself as a big name in the class already. Bryant has great positional size as a playmaking wing. He is a good defender and actually a good shot blocker at his size. Best described as a high floor prospect, I think Ty is going to project very well as a college basketball player eventually but he's also a flamethrower on the mound in baseball. As a basketball prospect, Ty's passing really stood out to me. And I'm interested to see him shoot the perimeter jumper more.

It's early but Rajon is one of my favorite prospects in this class. Mostly because he's a pure point guard in a class full of scoring guards. Floyd is both quick and fast and lives in the paint on offense. Rajon is also more than capable of clamping down on the defensive end, too. I look forward to monitoring his development as he should be one of the top young players in the 11th region this season.

Queen is the player who I have seen the least of in this top tier of prospects but when you ask around about top players in this freshman class, Jeremiah's name comes up frequently. An explosive guard with good size already, Queen has a chance to be a really impressive freshman in the 502 this season for a Seneca team that is very young but supremely talented.

Bentley made the most impressive first impression of anyone on this list when I saw him dunk all over a 6'7" player when I saw him play for the first time. After that, Chase continued to impress me with his shooting ability and playmaking. Not to mention that he has a tremendous motor and an obvious basketball IQ. Someone mentioned Chase to me as being "Reed Sheppard like". We will wait on making those kinds of proclamations but Bentley is a really good young player.
