Scoring Standouts - Early Season Edition

Seasons are now officially underway in each of the six state associations, as well as in the NEPSAC. With that in mind, we wanted to take the chance to highlight some of the region's standout scorers through the first few weeks of the season.   Connecticut   There have been a handful of big scoring games in the CIAC, as well as a newly minted 1,000 point scorer. [player_tooltip player_id='2811979' first='Johnny' last='Kazantzis'], a senior guard at Killingly, notched his 1,000th career point just last week. [player_tooltip player_id='2341304' first='Abdou' last='Toure'], arguably the top scorer in the state, kicked off his junior campaign with a 42 point performance in a road win for Notre Dame-West Haven. [player_tooltip player_id='2452540' first='Julius' last='Washington'] has been one of the best scorers in New England so far with games of 36-33-39 points for Grasso Tech. Prince RVT's Jordan Iverson had 37 points in a win over Capital Prep, Fitch's [player_tooltip player_id='2553716' first='Xavier' last='Goode'] had 36 points in a win over Windham and 35 in a win against Capital Prep. [player_tooltip player_id='2461542' first='Syre' last='Gillespie'] had 26 points in an early season loss, [player_tooltip player_id='2547120' first='Sincere' last='Monroe'] had 25 points in an early season win, and Joey Carrafiello had 30 and 34 points in back to back wins for Seymour.   Maine   The regular season is about a third of the way done in the MPA and the picture is starting to clear on who might be the state's top teams and players. [player_tooltip player_id='2325850' first='Jamier' last='Rose'] out of Noble and John Patenaude from Gray-New Gloucester both recently passed the 1,000 point mark. [player_tooltip player_id='2547136' first='Wyatt' last='Benoit'], the Thornton Academy standout, has a 26 point game under his belt, while Spruce Mountain's [player_tooltip player_id='2811969' first='Jace' last='Bessey'] dropped 25 in a win against Yarmouth. Fort Kent's Aden Jeffers had a day in a win over Southern Aroostook, dropping a season high 47 points!   Massachusetts   Games have been underway for about two weeks now in Massachusetts with plenty of impressive scoring performances so far. Lowell's [player_tooltip player_id='2633107' first='Tzar' last='Powell-Aparicio'] is off to a hot start, including a 31 point game in a win over Billerica. [player_tooltip player_id='2546964' first='Isaiah' last='Andino'] had a 25 point night for Methuen in a close loss to Andover. Beverly's [player_tooltip player_id='2696712' first='Jacob' last='Klass'] had 32 points in a season opening win and followed it up a few nights later with a 30 point outing, helping Beverly get off to a 4-0 start. Bourne's [player_tooltip player_id='2546836' first='Mikey' last='Dankert'] kicked off his senior campaign with back to back 29 point nights, while Holland (formerly Burke) got 30 points from [player_tooltip player_id='2396734' first='Jasaad' last='Fenton'] in an early season win over Lynn English.   New Hampshire   Games have just gotten underway in the NHIAA, with most teams playing just three games and a handful having played four, but that doesn't mean there haven't been some big scoring outputs. Portsmouth's [player_tooltip player_id='2696709' first='Isaiah' last='Reis'] had 34 points in a win at Bishop Guertin, Alvirne's [player_tooltip player_id='2547116' first='Sammy' last='DeWitt'] had 30 points in a win at Goffstown, and Souhegan's [player_tooltip player_id='2553824' first='Weston' last='Hickman'] scored 33 points in a win at Laconia. The season's single-game high so far belongs to Moultonborough's Isaac Langlois, who dropped 37 points in a recent win over Nute.   Rhode Island   There've been some big scoring outputs so far in the RIIL, with a handful of prospects topping the 30 point mark already. [player_tooltip player_id='2553759' first='Donovan' last='Clement'], a standout at Moses Brown, had 32 points in a recent win over Hope. [player_tooltip player_id='2711392' first='James' last='Wilson'], a sophomore at South Kingstown, had 28 points in a win over Scituate and later followed that up with 33 points in a win over Juanita Sanchez. [player_tooltip player_id='2547070' first='Jakob' last='Reyes'] out of Bishop Hendricken had an impressive 37 points in a setback against La Salle Academy. [player_tooltip player_id='2811948' first='Ace' last='Cote'], a guard at defending state champion Lincoln, had 32 points in an early season win last week. John Ramos, a freshman at Central, kicked off his career with a 23 point night against Woonsocket. The state's most impressive single-game output belongs to North Smithfield's [player_tooltip player_id='2553850' first='Connor' last='Reilly'], who kicked off his junior season with a 44 point night.   Vermont   We're about a third of the way through the season in the VPA too, which means there's been plenty of scoring to note so far. Twin Valley's Brayden Brown has been torching the nets so far, scoring 31-29-34-32 points in consecutive games. Eli Russell had 27 points in a Twinfield/Cabot win over Oxbow. Stowe's [player_tooltip player_id='2408951' first='Jack' last='Lafayette'] had 38 points in an early season win over Peoples. Brendan Moodie had 42 points in a Hazen win over Peoples. Danville's [player_tooltip player_id='2453030' first='Andrew' last='Joncas'] had 32 points in a win over Proctor. [player_tooltip player_id='2396750' first='Rex' last='Hauser'], a standout at St. Johnsbury, already has three games of at least 20 points under his belt.   NEPSAC   There have been a handful of impressive scoring outputs so far this season in the NEPSAC, with numerous prospects having multiple games of 25 points or more. Maybe no prospect in New England has gotten off to a better start as a scorer than [player_tooltip player_id='2341363' first='Alex' last='Egbuonu'] out of Lawrence Academy. He pumped in 38 points in an early season match-up with Wilbraham & Monson, then followed it up with 34 points in a game against CATS Academy. Two other prospects with notable high scoring games are Canterbury's [player_tooltip player_id='2325867' first='Andreo' last='Ash'] and Worcester Academy's [player_tooltip player_id='1157225' first='Payton' last='Kamin']. Ash, a big wing scorer, had 30 points in an impressive win over St. Thomas More, while Kamin had a career-high 37 points in a recent win over Mount St. Charles.
