Preseason Player of the Year: 2024 Caden Wilkins Caden Wilkins 6'7" | SG Bettendorf | 2024 State #69 Nation IA (Bettendorf)

After leading the league in scoring and rebounding last season, Wilkins is a pretty easy selection for POY honors here. But this league figures to be much improved this year, and it will be a good race to watch throughout the season.

First Team

2024 Caden Wilkins Caden Wilkins 6'7" | SG Bettendorf | 2024 State #69 Nation IA (Bettendorf): 19.9 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.1 steals, 1.5 blocks

Wilkins led the conference in scoring and rebounding last season and is coming off a good summer with the Barnstormers in which he showed off his ability to take over games on both ends of the floor. A 6-6 scoring wing, he’s primed to have a huge year for a Bettendorf team that should be much improved.

2026 Navon Shabazz Navon Shabazz 6'4" | CG Assumption | 2026 State IA (Assumption)

Shabazz is a Quad City native but spent his freshman year down in Florida. He’s back now and ready to make a major impact at Assumption. A dynamic athlete, Shabazz is a versatile scorer who can take over games in the blink of an eye as either a scorer or facilitator. He already holds offers from Bryant, Siena, Wake Forest, and Southern Miss.

2024 Kavon Phillips Kavon Phillips 6'7" | SF North Scott | 2024 State IA (North Scott): 14.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.5 blocks

Phillips is one of the best two-way players in the state, a long and athletic wing who can defend multiple positions, create for his teammates, and score from anywhere. Coming off a great summer with the Barnstormers, he looks primed to have a huge senior year for the Lancers, who will battle PV, Assumption, and Bettendorf at the top of the league.

2025 Luke Wieskamp (Muscatine): 16.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.2 blocks, 75.8 FT%

Wieskamp’s older brother Joe took a huge leap from his sophomore year to his junior year, and Luke may be in line for the same jump. A versatile scorer who uses his length well on both ends of the floor, he’ll be asked to do a ton for the Muskies this season.

2024 Coy Kipper Coy Kipper 5'8" | PG Pleasant Valley | 2024 State IA (Pleasant Valley): 8.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.0 steals

The Spartans rarely ever have a player with eye-popping stats that scream “First Team” because of how balanced they are, but they need to have someone here as the best team in the conference. We’ll give the nod to Kipper, who led 4A in assists last season. Arguments could be made for about 6 Spartans to be in this spot.
