It was great time to see the new head coach, Sunny Wicks and his staff in action. I say unique, as I have been to the other elite or advance camps around the state, and while those camps are great for the prospects, this camp was ran a bit different from those. This camp was a full college practice, and the head coach definitely was active.
From the opening minutes Coach Wicks was highly involved running the camp, the drills, and displaying his trademark high energy self. The camp was very organized, ran very smoothly, with the kids soon responding in kind to the gymnasium full of energy. The coach came out firing with real talk and encouragement, while moving the prospects through the face pace college level drills. I stated at the time that if the kids weren’t awake at the early hour of 8 o’clock they were at 8:05am.
With about 60 to 65 prospects in the building, it was a good slice of talent from around the state that had assembled here to train and to attempt to prove themselves in front of staff. Because of the intensity there were those that jumped out right away and several prospects that performed well.

First Tier Prospects that Showed Out:
Bennet Basich 6’3″ SG 2024 Arrowhead HS: This kid has already committed to UWGB and Coach Wicks. Let me state that the kid has put himself in the position that he is in because he just works, then he plays faster & harder than most. He competes at such a high level that some of the quotes being tossed around by the coaches said it all: ‘he would tear off his left arm to beat you’ or ‘every team needs a player like Bennet’. He was going full tilt all morning and was very much looking to go against the camps best at every turn.
Cole Hansen 6’4″ SG 2024 Legacy Early College: This prospect was probably the most polished of those that attended the camp. He played aggressive on both ends of the court. His mid-range shot seemed to be cooking and couldn’t be stopped. He shook off a few miscues but as a whole performed well throughout the day.
Latrevion Fenderson Latrevion Fenderson 6'4" | SF The Prairie School | 2025 State WI 6’3″ W 2025 The Prairie School: This prospect, who received his first offer from UW-Madison (2026 grad year) in June, played well. From year over year, I am of the mindset that this is one of the most improved players that the state has to offer. As of late, and as I keep watching this prospect, I often think that he has still a long way to go to be considered ‘up there’. It is then that he will make a tremendous impact by getting a bully ball and1, a hustle play, or hit a fantastic shot that you just have to clap for. I will say this, this player’s mistakes, if he makes them, come from hustle & competitiveness, not a low basketball IQ. I think most any coach would take that. This is one that we need to keep watching and encouraging.
Juan Guerro Hernandez 6’5″ G 2025 Grafton: On the day he was a player that brushed off some early footwork issues or maybe a shot or two might not have fallen to play at a high level. From the naked eye, one could tell that this one was one of the top over all players at the event. He came on stronger as the camp went on. One might say that summer season probably unfolded much the same way. Where he is garnering a lot of interest from the next level and is a prospect that is ranked in the top ten in his class for the state.
Others that Jumped Out: (Random thoughts)
Jon O’Neil (Kaukauna): This prospect looked more fluid and took a step athletically than the last few times I had checked in. At 6’10” he is poised to have a large senior year and will be a force.
Andrew Jenson (Kaukauna): My personal number one player in the 2026 class is really starting to put aggressive playing performances on top of one around.
Tyshawn Teague-Johnson Tyshawn Teague-Johnson 6'5" | SF Beloit Turner | 2024 State WI (Beloit): vast improvement in the basketball IQ play from when I saw him last, which was at the UW-Madison Advanced Camp in June. He has a good level of skill, improving, and has the physical traits. He could very well have an exciting season coming up and it will be interesting to see what attention he’ll earn if he keeps ascending. Probably had the dunk of the session; athleticism jumped out of the gym on that one.
Devin Isaj Devin Isaj 6'6" | SF Greendale | 2025 State WI (Greenfield): Thought this was a player that came on as the camp went on also. At one point he hit 3-4 tough shots in a row in one of the late drills that had me focused on him. He displayed a knack for scoring the ball around the rim after his initial first move or bump from an opponent. When I first noticed him, I thought that he had grown another inch or so. I believe if he could gain some more upper body strength, he will have a chance to jump ahead of a few prospects in his class. Let’s see how his junior year goes and catch a few of his games.
Liam Lubkeman Liam Lubkeman 6'9" | C Westosha Central | 2025 State WI (Westosha Central): it looks like playing the summer for Wisconsin Playground and their bigs, has help this prospect. At 6’8″ he makes very few mistakes, usually makes the solid play, and can pass out of the post.
Abraham Tomori Abraham Tomori 6'2" | SF Appleton North | 2025 WI (Appleton North): Showed marked improvement from the early spring to this event.
Will Gonzales (Curie/IL): a 6’5″/6″ player that made some plays during the four-hour event. He should be happy with his performance on the day.
Alec Wendt (Bergan Catholic/NE): a 6’5″ W who made the farthest trip it appears but looked to be a capable prospect. Performed well in several drills.
Carter Koch Carter Koch 6'5" | PF Oconto | 2025 State WI (Oconto): Looks physically stronger that his grad year of 2025.
Gems of the camp that we heard repeatedly: Communicate, accountability, opportunity time, all them points scored in high school don’t mean a thing, effort, flying around (on defense), if you can’t do these things maybe this isn’t for you, and winners always do more than losers.
Thank you, Coach Wicks & Staff, for giving me access & your valuable time.
