There are a number of viable candidates for this honor, but we’ll side with Kern, who was exceptional for the Lions on both ends of the floor. A modern big man who can score around the bucket with either hand and a variety of post moves, he can also stretch the floor with a smooth jumper and protect the painted area defensively.

Severson has been fantastic for the Tigers in his first two years, helping lead them to their first state tournament this year. A long, rangy 6-3 wing who can score from all three levels, he’s the focal point of the Madrid attack and still producing at a high level.

A quick guard who can create shots for himself and his teammates in bunches, Driscoll is a smart player who understands angles and how to get to his spots. He’s a great finisher around the rim, has an excellent mid-range game, and is a menace on the defensive end.

Stinson helped lead the Tigers to the 4A state championship, using his size, athleticism, and physicality to control games on both ends of the floor. He’s a smart guard who can defend multiple positions, gets others involved, and get to the rim.

A 6-8 combo forward who can score inside and out, McCaffery took a major jump this season on both ends of the floor. He’s a good help defender with outstanding length and good timing as a shot blocker, and he’s able to score in a variety of ways.

A pure scorer with a quick release off the catch, Lieurance had a number of huge scoring games for the Cougars as a sophomore, leading the team in scoring. He’s improving as a ball handler and shot creator, which will only continue to make him a more dangerous offensive weapon.

A long, rangy wing who is the standout on a young, talented Grundy Center team, Kirkpatrick has a smooth stroke, can create off the dribble, and has the size, length, and athleticism to defend multiple positions.

The younger brother of former Iowa standout Joe Wieskamp, Luke came into his own this season for the Muskies, putting up some big scoring games in the defensive-minded MAC.

Stats: 15.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.7 steals
Goodman led the Rams in scoring in the loaded CIML. He has the ability to score from all three levels, using his shooting to open up the rest of his offensive arsenal.

A shifty guard who can get to the bucket seemingly at will, Helmers led Algona to the state tournament and makes a major impact on both ends of the floor. He’s extremely efficient, doesn’t force anything, and is a good athlete who can defend well on the perimeter.
