Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
Steele’s combination of size and physical tools is insane. He’s 6-foot-7 with very long arms and jump-out-of-the-gym hops. He explodes to the rim off of either one food or two and is able to finish with contact very nicely. He can also step out and hit the mid-range shot and his free throws, though his longer-range shot seems to still be coming along. His ball handling is already good enough for his size, but if he could improve a bit in that area, his off-the-dribble game would be completely unlocked. I don’t know what the senior’s recruitment looks like right now, but I can’t imagine some D1 schools wouldn’t take a chance on him.

Steele, a member of the back-to-back state champions at North, will do a post-graduate year at Darrow School. Steele is a hybrid forward that has a terrific compete level. He makes plays high above the rim on both ends of the floor and has a nose for the ball on the offensive glass. He has nice touch out to 15′ and has used the spring session to expand his offensive game, showing potential off the bounce on the perimeter. Most importantly, he’s a proven winner that comes up clutch in big moments. The lefty had wide-ranging interest after his senior season and should be able to play his way to the scholarship level with 12 more months of development at Darrow.

Steele, a back-t0-back state champion at North (Worcester), is not only one of the top uncommitted prospects in New England, but also one of the region’s most explosive athletes. A forward that plays with a high motor on both ends of the floor, Steele took his game to another level in some of the biggest moments of the season. He’s a terrific rebounder, particularly on the offensive end of the floor where he has a knack for keeping plays alive. He expanded his game to the point where he can make plays off the bounce when he faces up and even knocked down an occasional three this season. He’s a versatile defender that can guard all five positions, creates a significant amount of turnovers off deflections and steals, and is a high level shot blocker.

Steele, a member of Worcester North’s reigning state championship squad, ranks #139 in New England. One of the region’s most athletic forwards, Steele makes play after play above the rim. His offensive game, right now, mostly consists of rim finishes, often in the category of thunderous dunks. Not only is he a great verticle athlete, but he can really run the floor in transition, setting up easy baskets for himself and his teammates with his effort alone. Defensively, he’s a glass cleaner who does a great job of protecting the rim. He profiles as a switchable defender at the next level as he has good length and moves his feet well on the perimeter.
