Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
Carlson is only 6-foot-3 but got up for multiple blocks against far bigger players. His timing is impeccable and he’s an excellent athlete – the fact that he can provide some rim protection at the guard position is incredibly rare and valuable. He’s also a do-it-all offensive player who will make the extra pass and cut off the ball but can also get to the rim and knock down some shots. He’s so additive and takes away nothing; exactly what his coaches at Williams will be looking for next season. He’ll have a fantastic D3 career.

Carson is a versatile player who excels in multiple aspects of the game. He has a knack for scoring, whether it’s through sharp shooting, driving to the basket, or finishing around the rim. His defensive skills make him a formidable presence, often disrupting opponents and securing crucial rebounds. With his all-around ability, Carson is a key asset to the Darrow team this year.

Carlson is a 6-foot-5 wing with great size – a textbook college small forward. His most prolific skill is his three-point shooting but he does all of the little things on both ends; getting 50/50 balls, attacking the offensive glass and moving without the ball. He’ll play at Williams College next season, one of the best D3 programs in the country.

Carlson, who has already announced his commitment to Williams College, will head to Darrow School after a successful high school career at Monument Mountain in Massachusetts. Carlson has great size for an off guard, has deceptive athleticism, and can really score the basketball. He impacts the game in ways that don’t show up in the box score too as he’s a willing ball mover, takes pride on the defensive end of the floor, and will sacrifice his body for loose balls. He’s a quality early commitment for Williams and should only continue to improve during his time at Darrow.

Carlson, who announced that he will be doing a post-graduate year at the Darrow School, came off the board with his commitment to Williams College. A prospect that recently made his debut in our 2024 Rankings, Carlson is a big guard that can score at all three levels. He’s a dynamic athlete that can finish above the rim, make plays in the half-court and in transition, and guard multiple positions. He has a college ready frame, a great feel for the game, and appears to just be scrastching the surface of the type of player he could become. The year at Darrow will allow him to face a higher level of competition before moving on to Williams, where I’d expect him to eventually develop into one of the better scoring guards in the NESCAC.
