This was my first time seeing Colson in person, and I like him a lot. The 5-foot-10 point guard certainly lacks size, but he has all of the intangible qualities you need if you’re going to be undersized. He slides his feet extremely well and does a phenomenal job walling up against bigger guards, and he has great hands and toughness. Offensively, he’s a relentless rim attacker and takes contact quite well at the rim. For a guard his size, he finishes the ball effortlessly, but he also makes really heady reads once he touches the paint. Colson will have a good chance at starting for Darrow this season and should see his recruitment pick up immensely if he’s able to secure that spot.

Colson found the basket in a variety of ways and proved that when he gets into a rhythm, he can be extremely difficult to contain as a scorer. He showed the ability to score off the bounce from beyond the three-point line, adding another layer to his offensive arsenal. Colson also demonstrated versatility by operating effectively both on and off the basketball, allowing him to fit into different lineup combinations. I would like to see him move more without the ball, as his instincts and scoring ability could make him a dangerous cutter and off-ball threat. In the half-court, he was comfortable operating out of the two-man game and displayed impressive vision by delivering difficult passes to his post players. With his feel for the game and ability to attack openings, Colson could be especially effective as an off-ball slasher who takes advantage of defensive lapses.

Colson had no issue adjusting to the rigors of PCL play last year after transferring in from Imhotep Charter, stepping right into a high-octane multi-guard attack and averaging double figures right away. He’ll play a similar role as a senior for a Neumann team with eyes on a league title. Colson’s most consistent contributions come by way of his shotmaking, as he knocked down over 70 3’s last year with a quick and compact stroke that allows him to heat up in a hurry. He’s also a feisty competitor with quick feet defending the point of attack while adding some downhill punch as a playmaker off the bounce. Look for scholarship-level programs to be lining up for him by season’s end as the Saints figure to be playing well into March.

Colson isn’t called upon to be a dynamic scorer in Neumann’s balanced guard-heavy system, but consistently shows himself to be an efficient contributor in a valued role. Monday was no exception as he was poised and deliberate in picking his spots to attack on his way to a clean double-figure effort. On a team full of dribble-drive threats, Colson thrived as a jump shooter both off the catch and while showing off a polished and compact pullup arsenal. He was steady defending the ball and helping force turnovers to spark transition, offering a clear look at the simplified plug-and-play backcourt role he projects towards at the scholarship level.

Another Public League transplant, Colson acquitted himself well amid a guard-heavy Neumann lineup after transferring over from Imhotep (PA). Playing primarily off the ball in a four-guard attack, he made his biggest impact as a floor-spacer, knocking down almost 70 3s at a 37% clip as the Saints’ most prolific and reliable threat from beyond the arc. Capable of playing at the point in spurts, Colson also mixed in flashes of pullup shooting and dribble-drive creation. His impact carried over to the other end where helped set the tone for Neumann’s intense on-ball pressure defense. Colson’s plug-and-play skillset figures to translate smoothly at the scholarship level when his time comes.

Colson is a dynamic lead guard who is being overlooked on the talented the Saints’ roster. He transferred to NG this past summer and has gelled quickly with his new teammates. On Saturday Colson came out firing against Central York. He popped two threes and tallied 8 points in the first quarter (13 total on the game). When he was not scoring, Colson got into the paint and then executed kick out passes or slipped dimes to the dunker spot. Colson thrived in pick-n-roll action too.

This former Imhotep Charter standout is fitting right in with his new squad. Earlier this week Colson dropped 16 points (2 threes) as the Saints defeated Naz Regional. Colson does a tremendous job of balancing his own three level scoring with distributing the ball to teammates. College coaches will love Colson’s ability to take an outlet pass, get downhill quickly and then pilot the fast break for scores or assists. Colson will surprise opponents with his ability to finish through contact.

On Friday night we will be watching to see how this former Imhotep Charter standout blends with his new teammates. Given his speed, handles and extraordinary passing skills, we bet Colson fits the NG lineup perfectly. His drive-n-kick skills are especially impressive. When he is in scoring mode, Colson can get buckets off the dribble via floaters and lay-ins. His jump shot must be respected in the mid-range and from deep. Colson can also produce points in the open court. On defense, Colson is a menacing on-ball presence.
