Expert Analysis
Tom Keller | Prep Hoops Scout
Ellis impressed with his two-way versatility throughout the weekend, impacting the game on both ends of the floor. He plays with terrific pace, attacking closeouts aggressively and using his quick first step to get downhill and pressure the defense. Ellis also showed that he is a capable perimeter shooter, confidently knocking down open three-pointers and forcing defenders to respect his outside game. His energy and motor stand out every time he steps on the floor, as he consistently makes hustle plays and keeps possessions alive with his relentless effort. Once Ellis gets into an offensive rhythm, he is extremely difficult to contain, capable of stringing together scoring runs in a hurry. With his blend of athleticism, versatility, shooting ability, and nonstop motor, Ellis is a prospect who should continue to draw division one interest, while high-level division two programs will certainly be hoping he slips through the cracks.

Ellis is an intriguing two-way prospect whose versatility impacts the game on both ends of the floor. He is relentless when attacking the basket and consistently finds ways to score around the rim through his aggressiveness and physicality. With his combination of positional size and length, Ellis covers a tremendous amount of ground defensively, taking away driving lanes, disrupting passing angles, and making life difficult for opposing ball handlers. He possesses the foundational tools to develop into an elite defender as he continues to mature. Offensively, he does a nice job cutting to the basket and making himself available for easy scoring opportunities. Ellis is also confident in transition, where he can push the pace, get to his spots off the bounce, and utilize his mid-range game. With his blend of athleticism, defensive upside, and offensive versatility, he projects as a scholarship prospect with plenty of room for continued growth.

A couple of things have drawn me to this player. As a freshman during a summer league game while other players were getting pizza he was on a side court with his dad working on a quicker release. Last season a game I attended he was missing some shots next 2 possessions he drove the ball to the basket scoring once and getting fouled the second time. Rest of the quarter he drained 3 threes. A long and lanky player. I believe he’s still growing. Really nice handle. Can drain threes off the catch or his own dribble. Sneaky and evasive getting to the rim, Good rebounder from the guard position, he can snag rebounds and lead the break off the dribble.

Quite possibly the most impressive player at this team camp. He could possibly still be growing. The good news is when he does will be able to combine that size which already is 6”2 to his guard skills. A fluid repeatable motion on his shot from beyond the arc. Can get to the rim with quickness. Excellent handle.

Skyler was terrific all season and especially in the playoffs and in this game. He showed that he could possibly follow in the footsteps of the above mentioned Brandon and give Hills back to back players of the year in Suffolk next year. Long and lanky he grew a lot this season physically. Outstanding shooter from beyond the arc with a smooth quick release. Very quick and agile getting to the rim outstanding handle and very good in transition.

Skyler showed his scorers mentality. starting off 0-5 from three with shots all going in and coming out, he passed up on his his next 2 possessions and drove the ball to the rim , scoring, getting the defenders in the air with shot fakes. As the old adage goes if you’re a scorer, see the ball go through the hoop anyway you can and your whole game changes. That is what happened with Skyler being on fire in the second half showing his ability to score the ball in multiple ways. A quick release and even quicker off the bounce. He helped turn the 12 point half time lead to a 30 point cushion in the third quarter. Long and lanky with tremendous leaping ability he is able to snag rebounds and lead the break. Has the potential to give Hills next season another POY candidate.

Our #18 ranked player in our preseason picks raised some eyebrows. But it looks pretty good now in fact I probably should have put him even closer to #10 than I did. An outstanding shooter from beyond the arc. Averaging 20 ppg. Has had 10 games with three or more 3’s. Also doing it off the bounce now as well. An added dimension to his game which is now at a new level. An excellent rebounding guard using his long arms and length. Has put himself in the conversation for Suffolk county player of the year.

Has the ability to score in bunches. Excellent vision. Sees the floor really well. Posseses deep range. Crafty at the rim with a smooth handle. Have been following this player since I saw him as a 8th grader. This should be his year to show off his complete game. A player to know now.
