Expert Analysis
Aasim Sullivan | Prep Hoops Scout
Carty is a big, skilled player who makes a strong impact on the game. His size gives him an advantage in the paint, where he dominates with physicality and finesse. He contributes on both ends of the floor, anchoring the defense while also creating scoring opportunities. With his all-around presence, Carty will be a key player for Darrow this season.

The streetball environment isn’t necessarily catered towards a low post big man, but Carty still found some ways to be effective on Monday. The 6-foot-10 center is an absolute load underneath the rim and does a good job carving out space for offensive rebounds and put backs. He’s also extremely physical and is more than willing to throw his body around. He’s tough and can get angry if he needs to. The ball skills and footwork are still coming along, but Carty’s time at Darrow will certainly aid in his development as a potential scholarship big man.

For his height (legit 6-foot-10) and age, Carty is a lot beefier and stronger than most. The lateral mobility and quickness will always be a weakness of his – as it is for many 6-foot-10 centers – but his ability to finish around the rim and be a force in the paint makes up for it. His size alone will draw scholarship interest, and there isn’t a better coach to learn from than former NBA big man Brian Scalabrine, who coaches him for White Mamba. Wouldn’t be shocked if Carty leaves the MIAA shortly.

Carty, who spent the sumer running with Team White Mamba, looks to be in the best shape of his basketball career and is taking full advantage of that on the court. A physical presence in the paint, Carty has developed into a solid low post scorer that does a nice job of establishing position early, showing his hands, and finishing through contact with power. He’s a good rim runner that runs hard rim to rim and shows his hands in the process. He knows how to do his work early to establish position, catches almost everything thrown at him, and can score with touch over either shoulder. Defensively, he’s capable of providing some rim protection and does a good job of reading situations in ball screens. He should be one of the top big men in the MIAA this winter and could end up on the radar of scholarship programs come the spring.

A throwback, old-school, physically imposing big, Carty has dominated the competition in the MIAA this season. He punishes rims any chance he gets and is impossible to move once he gets to his spots in the paint. He does a good job as an offensive rebounder, both inside and out of his area. Given his size, he has deceptively quick feet and a nice feel for movement in the paint. While not a consistent threat from the perimeter, he has shown signs of being able to make threes in catch-and-shoot situations. Defensively, he’s best around the rim where he can alter and block shots in bunches. He’ll be another prospect to watch this spring and summer as he transitions to a higher competition level on the AAU scene.
