Carlson was one of the most skilled players I saw today. The 6-foot guard can play on or off the ball and does a phenomenal job when it comes to understanding when to attack and be aggressive but when to set up his teammates. The Thayer Academy rising junior has an awesome handle—especially in small spaces and in transition—and he’s more athletic than opponents give him credit for, so he often surprises them with finishes at the hoop. From the outside, he can hit shots and gets lots of elevation on his mid range pull up, making it more difficult to defend than the average guard his size. Carlson should be one of the main offensive engines for Thayer this season and will see his recruitment rise as a result.
