I was a big fan of the amount of athletes and length IMG Academy could throw on the court as Foster made an impact from the opening tip in a blowout win over Sunrise Christian Academy. On the first possession of the game Foster drove baseline and had a nice live dribble pass for an assist. I also liked how Foster kept the ball high on finishes in the paint and used his long strides in transition. Knocking down a couple of 3-pointers as well, Foster had an impressive scoring game.

In what was a really tough night for IMG, Chase Foster was an undeniable bright spot with his effort and energy vs Southeastern Prep. Foster finished with 13 Points, 7 Rebounds, and 3 Steals. His presence on the wing is a real factor at both ends of the floor, he can really guard multiple positions with his size and agility on the perimeter. The Pitt commit is a perfect fit for that style and system. A true versatile two way wing with three level scoring ability, and a handle that can create real mismatches. Foster and IMG didn’t quite have the weekend that they wanted but he was still able to have some big moments at The John Wall.

Chase was the beneficiary of a plethora of big dunks. He was caught flying through the lane, finishing with authority at the rim. The defenders had a hard time containing him from the paint due to the number of ways he could get there. Chase showed vast improvement making decisions off-the-dribble, making plays off the closeouts and finding ways to get two feet in the paint, often resulting in two points or a drawn foul.

Making his spring AAU debut on the 17U level after shining last summer with Melo’s 16s, the uber-talented Foster led a dominant showing with his diverse two-way skillset. With his motor running hot, Foster was flying around on the backline as part of a stifling team defensive effort before getting out in transition to showcase his fluidity and athleticism as both a ballhandler and finisher. What puts Foster over the top as a prospect is his range and versatility as a shooter, which he displayed on a variety of jumpers out to 3 with a number of them coming off the dribble. When he’s locked into doing the little things like he was on Saturday, there’s few prospects in the country who can match Foster’s impact on a game.

13p 10r 4a 3b vs City
-Continue to come away impressed with the maturity and growth in Foster’s game. Offensively, he is reading the help defender much better to make decisive reads to shoot or kick out to shooters. Last year he would dribble into traffic and often throw up an off-balance shot looking for a foul. This year he is hitting shooters, using a reverse pivot to create a better angle for the pass or shot, or hitting cutters. Skill-wise he is getting to his spots for pull-ups or step-throughs much more efficiently and has cut way down on his turnovers. He’s also using his frame and his length much better to create space to get his shot off.
His motor has also improved by leaps and bounds, running the floor and finishing at a high level while also blocking way more shots. He had two big blocks the last few possessions to seal a City Title for Edmondside-Westside, their second in a row. Foster will look to carry that momentum into a likely-expanded role on a Loaded VA team that has added a ton of talent to the roster.

Foster dominated this game from start to finish on both ends of the floor, exiting the game early with a 27p 14r 6b 3a performance. The highly-touted sophomore wing has matured and you can see it in his shot selection and pace, he is doing a much better job of reading the defense and knows where his teammates are before hitting a spin move out of a double team. The improved emphasis on protecting the paint has been huge, as his quest to attack the glass and collect as many rebounds to create more opportunities for his team. He hit a 3, hit a midrange pull-up, scored off of putback dunks, had a nice series of step-through moves to score in the paint, got to the line (8/8), and did a great job of serving as a passing hub from the high post. If the 3s fall consistently with more volume and he can improve his lateral mobility well enough to consistently guard 1s+2s– watch out.
