Kyler Staley | Prep Hoops Scout
One of the more physically imposing prospects at the Prep Hoops Indiana Sophomore ID Camp this past Sunday was Braylon McNiece from Homestead High School. Simply put, he’s a tough bucket-getter, able to score through contact and on difficult angles down low. He was also one of the better passing bigs I saw on the day and should be able to make an impact for Homestead this year.

Inside-out forward that is versatile on both ends of the floor. Moves his feet well so he can stay with smaller players on the perimeter defensively while having the strength and length to cover bigger players down in the low post. Offensively he’s comfortable playing all over the floor. Really good cutter off the ball and can finish in a variety of different ways around the basket. Skill set that allows him to be a mismatch problem for whoever is guarding him. Knockdown shooter off the catch. Has a smooth quick release with good arch. Also has the ability to drive close outs and score in the midrange. Does a really good job staying in balance when he gets to his spot and goes to his spin move away into his jumper.

The size, length, and athleticism of this young prospect make him a very intriguing rising sophomore forward at Homestead High School. We had the chance to see him a handful of times over the summer and will look forward to getting an updated evaluation of McNiece at the upcoming Sophomore ID Camp.

McNiece is more of a forward than a true “big man” with his ability to face up and play from the perimeter. He was very impressive at our Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase and looks to be one of the top prospects in the freshman class from the Fort Wayne area. The 6’6″ McNiece can stretch the floor as a catch-and-shoot threat, attack closeouts off of the bounce, and use his size/strength to dominate around the basket. His overall physical and athletic tools are very advanced for his age.

McNiece was one of the more physically impressive big men at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. Generally speaking, young big men are either long and lean but very awkward and uncoordinated, or they are a bit overweight and haven’t yet grown into their size. However, this 6’6″ forward from Homestead High School had a strong, athletic frame at his size. Whether he was putting the ball on the floor to attack, knocking in face-up jump shots, or using his size around the basket, McNiece really stood out throughout our event.
