With the dead period underway and AAU ramping back up, let's take a minute to look ahead to the high school season and do some early handicapping of the field for 2024 Mr Basketball award. While there is a clear front runner, the award is not quite the slam dunk that Reed Sheppard was for this past season's award. Here's a look at contenders for the award.

The Favorite:

[player_tooltip player_id='939117' first='Travis' last='Perry'], Lyon County - Likely a heavy favorite, Travis has been a known commodity in the 2024 class for a very long time and will end his career as the leading scorer in state history and probably by a whole lot. Barring injury or incident, Perry is most likely to hoist the Mr Basketball trophy in March.

The Second Favorite:

[player_tooltip player_id='939116' first='Trent' last='Noah'], Harlan County - If anyone can catch Perry, it's probably [player_tooltip player_id='939116' first='Trent' last='Noah']. The 6'7 SG has over 20 D1 offers and has played in every big event across the state in recent years in an attempt to impress potential voters. It probably takes a slip up by Perry for anyone else to win but Trent is the obvious second choice.

In the Mix:

[player_tooltip player_id='939716' first='Kade' last='Unseld'], Warren Central - A state champion this March and probably the third best college prospect in the class, Unseld is going to have a strong resume as a winner in his career. His stats won't match up to Travis or Trent but his trump card will be the state championship ring on his finger.
