One of the highest upside players in the country, Thompson is an elite 3-and-D wing with the ability to shoot over smaller defenders with ease. Committed to Ohio State, Thompson will be expected to play a major role right away for the Buckeyes next season. Thompson has had an excellent season for Western Reserve Academy, shooting the cover off the basketball in the Elite Prep League.

Thompson made a living from behind the arc connecting on several three pointers throughout the game. The southpaw has such a smooth release it seems like every time he releases the ball it can wind up going in. By now you think teams wouldn’t give him much space to get his shot off but they still do.

The highest-regarded prospect in the event, Thompson wasn’t at his best but nonetheless made the difference as Western Reserve cruised to a first round win over a feisty Dexter Southfield team. Despite being relatively quiet for much of the game, the five-star Ohio State pledge scored a game-high 20 points thanks in large part to a second-quarter stretch of four consecutive 3s that ballooned the margin up near 20 points. He flashed his playmaking ability and interior scoring in the second half to help shut the door when things got within striking distance later in the game. The ceiling for Thompson is undeniable as he continues learning to tap into his best effort with greater consistency.

Thompson had another consistent performance showing his broad ranging skillset. He scored on the interior and was a threat to space the floor. He stuffed the stat sheet. He used his length to collect several blocks. The southpaw made his fair amount of trips to the charity stripe. Thompson finished with 19 points in limited action.

The highest ranked committed prospect in our rankings, Thompson is staying in-state and going to the Ohio State University. A prospect who started climbing the rankings over a year ago, lots of Thompson’s early buzz was based on his potential and flashes. It’s been very impressive seeing Thompson turn that potential into production as he now is one of the most dominant players in the country at both ends of the court. After a great summer with Indiana Elite, Thompson was one of the top performers at Team USA Minicamp in October and should provide instant two-way impact for the Buckeyes.

The top prospect in Ohio’s 2026 class, Thompson has elevated his game to five star status and it is easy to see why when watching him. The 3-point shooting ability of Thompson is now effortless as he’s added strength to his frame and barely needs to jump to get his shot off above smaller defenders. Rising into the top 10 of national rankings, Thompson has narrowed down his list of schools and is taking a visit to Indiana this weekend which is one of his finalists. Indiana had a coach in to see him this week while the other finalists include Ohio State, Michigan, North Carolina, Kentucky and Texas.

-Thompson put on a masterclass in his last AAU game ever, beating a good NW team by 28 while finishing with 35p 8r 3a 1s on 76/83/100 shooting splits. Thompson hit 3s both off the bounce and off of movement, drove past his matchup to finish with a flurry of step-thru’s/reverse layups/floaters, and operated well with his back to the basket as both a scoring and passing hub for his team (3rd place in 17u). Love the pace and patience that Thompson plays with at both ends of the floor, never rushing but also without missing opportunities to blow past his matchup when he has a step. The handle has improved quite a bit to allow him to maneuver against wings or guards on the perimeter and he uses his size well to snag rebounds or shoot over his opponent. The talented wing will be one of the most sought-after players in the 2026 class at a national level.

Ranked as a five-star prospect nationally, it should really come as no surprise that Thompson was one of the best players in the gym throughout the weekend. However, he took his game to another level in Rock Hill. The 6’8″ left-handed wing scored 30+ points in four of Indiana Elite 17’s six games including a 35-point, 8-rebound performance as they won Sunday’s third place contest 83-58 against New World 17u. Thompson will remain one of the country’s most sought after prospects until he ultimately makes his college decision.
