Most Outstanding Player: 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1978099' first='Colin' last='Rice'] (Waukee Northwest)
21.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.2 steals, 2.2 blocks, 53.5 FG%, 42.9 3PT%, 80.4 FT%

If there was any question that Rice was worthy of a roster spot in the Big Ten, that's gone completely out the window after the senior finished with one of, if not the best season in the state. An elite scorer, Rice can put the ball on the deck, pull up from anywhere at or inside the three-point line and finish at the rim. A long, wirey and smooth hooper, Rice will fit excellently at Nebraska, alongside fellow former Waukee Northwest product, Pryce Sandfort.

Though I was only able to see Rice in person once this season, the fourth-leading scorer in 4A showed off some ridiculous shot-making, able to make turnaround jumpers over the out-reached hands of defenders to bury mid-range shots and attempts from beyond the arc. Rice, the Gatorade Player of the Year in Iowa, would've been an excellent fit at a variety of high-major programs, but with the way Fred Hoiberg has the Cornhuskers rolling, Rice could be a perfect fit in Lincoln. An underrated playmaker that grabs boards, blocks shots and forces turnovers, it's a shame he and the Wolves didn't get a shot at the 4A state title.

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1765553' first='William' last='Gerdes'] (Cedar Falls)
21.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2 blocks, 3.1 assists, 75.6 FG%, 41 3PT%

Even if Northwest did get their chance at the crown, they would've run into the juggernaut that was Cedar Falls and Gerdes. Another forward in the 2026 class that was beyond dominant this season, the Northern Iowa commit took a massive step forward in his game from last season to this year. Getting bigger, stronger, faster, more aggressive and becoming one of the more well-rounded bigs in the state, Gerdes was a close second for the Most Outstanding Player in 4A, especially after earning the award at the state tournament in the Tigers' run to the title.

Gerdes put up an elite field goal percentage, making more than 3/4 of the shots he took from the field. That not only shows off his growing repertoire of post moves, the fact that he got leverage on basically anyone he matched up with in the post, that he grew exponentially as a three-point shooter, but that his IQ and decision-making were elite. A fluid athlete that had the softest touch among other bigs in this class, Gerdes will be a near-perfect fit with the skilled forwards Ben Jacobson likes to have at UNI.

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1777914' first='Jaydon' last='Kimbrough'] (Cedar Falls)
18.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.3 steals, 52.4 FG%, 38.6 3PT%, 76.1 FT%

Formerly a DII commit with Winona State, Kimbrough reached an entire new level of basketball this summer and winter, competing on the Under Armour circuit, and, at one point, looking like a contender for Iowa Mr. Basketball. A supremely confident ball-handler that was never too high and never too low for the state champions, Kimbrough is an athlete with burst and a quick first step that allows him to get to the rim and finish above smaller guards and even on forwards. A premiere ball-handler that ran the show for Cedar Falls, Kimbrough provided exactly what the Tigers needed from a lead guard in order to put together an undefeated, state champion season.

Kimbrough can catch-and-shoot, create off the dribble, defend other guards and wings with his size, and completely take over a game when it's needed from him. There are few seniors that rose up in play like Kimbrough (and Gerdes, for that matter) did this fall, and Cedar Falls greatly benefitted from his leap forward, winning yet another state title.

2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2309944' first='Josiah' last='Harrington'] (North Scott)
24.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.8 steals, 50.3 FG%, 73.9 FT%

If Harrington isn't the favorite to win Iowa's Mr. Basketball next season, that must mean somebody won a ton of games and took a monstrous step forward. The Iowa State commit can flat-out do it all. He has the size at 6-foot-7 to be a versatile piece on both ends of the floor, and that's exactly what he is for North Scott -- who will also be expected to be a title contender in 2026-27. Harrington's ceiling is beyond that of many other players in the state because of his athleticism, length, defensive capabilities and ability to score at all three levels.

He's fearless at the rim, too. Knowing the type of physical tools he has, he is more than willing to attack the basket and take on multiple defenders in the paint, looking for the dunk - and to put it on somebody's head -- the whole way. Ready to rise and fire from the perimeter at a moment's notice, Harrington is nearly impossible for anyone in the state of Iowa to stop, and his smooth jumper is still taking shape. If there's anyone on this list that immediately jumps out as a potential NBA prospect right now, it's Harrington.

2029 [player_tooltip player_id='3353853' first='Roman' last='Henry'] (Sioux City North)
26.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.3 steals, 53.2 FG%, 42.5 3PT%, 80.1 FT%

The biggest name in the class of 2029, bar none, Henry was dominant in the northwest part of the state in his inaugural seaosn of high school basketball. The top scorer in all of 4A, Henry's skillset is far beyond his years. With the use of not only his jump shot but the ability to navigate space in the lane and finish with either hand, Henry showed off a nasty Euro-step, handles and spatial awareness that most freshman flat-out don't have.

His shooting pocket and release is a bit low, so that's something to work on going forward -- in addition to adding weight to his frame -- but much like Harrington when he was a freshman heading into his sophomore campaign, Henry may be primed to be a national recruit this summer, depening on where and how he plays on the AAU circuit. His length, effort, and efficiency from the field, three and the free throw line, in addition to his still-growing frame, should have high major coaches lining up to extend him a scholarship offer.
