Tony Roe | Prep Hoops Scout
The lone J-Hawk who was able to find any modicum of success on the offensive end against Cedar Falls stout defense was Pargeon, a bouncy 6-5 wing who put on an aerial display throughout the night. He finished with 30 points on 10-18 shooting (4-9 3P, 6-6 FT), 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block. He knocked down several tough, contested shots off the dribble and showcased impressive athleticism.

is one of the most talented offensive forces in the state of Iowa. His elite ball-handling prowess mixed with his freakish athleticism makes him an absolute chore to guard. Jake gets to the rim at will and can finish around, through, and over defenders with ease. His touch and body control while flying through the air are truly special. His vertical explosiveness adds another dimension to his around-the-rim attack that most guards just can’t replicate. The pressure he puts on the rim makes defenders have to give him room, and this makes his scoring even more deadly, as Jake is very adept at hitting deep step-back threes. He is great at using his speed and driving threat to manufacture space, and in these scenarios, he is very efficient at hitting shots with hands in his face. This shot-making ability translates to most areas of the court, and he has no issue shooting off the ball either, as he shows an ability to run off of screens and hit threes on the move and off balance. His threat as a scorer allows him to create many open shots for his team, as he is great at making quick reads and punishing help defenders off of his own shot creation. Jake is also great on the defensive end. He showcases elite length and athletic ability that allow him to lock down most matchups. He is also great at using his leaping ability to block shots and protect the rim.

dominated in every aspect of this game. For starters, his shot creation 1 on 1 was extremely impressive. Jake displayed high-level instincts and feel as a scorer. He showed himself to be a very in-control and smooth operator of the offense. This was mainly due to his calm demeanor with the rock. His balance and control when it came to breaking down his opponents off the dribble made him a constant worry for the opposing defense. He was elite at stepping back and creating space for jump shots. And even while stepping back, being off balance, and with a hand in his face, it didn’t seem to affect his shot much. He was very efficient on tough looks and hit many deep threes with a hand in his face. His main method of creating space is his change of pace and shiftiness. He used his scoring threat to get defenders on his hip and then stops and starts at will, drawing many fouls and allowing him to finish through contact at the rim. His elite footwork in the paint also made him a difficult matchup in the paint. He has a variety of euro steps that he uses to get himself angles to the rim, where he hit tough and-1 layups consistently. With his three-level shot creation, it is easy to see why Jake draws a lot of attention from the defense. And he was elite at finding open shooters and cutters off of his own creation. He also showcased an extremely impressive vertical that he used to detonate on the rim with two hands. He carried a huge offensive load in this game, and he was still able to be very impactful on the glass. He was also very effective defensively. He blocked multiple shots and got in passing lanes for steals.

showed elite versatility throughout the Winterset Summer Shootout. Jake was one of the top two-way talents at the guard position I saw at this event. His size and length allowed him to create many paint touches, as well as making him a formidable opponent for opposing ball handlers and sometimes forwards, showing his defensive versatility. Jake was a hard shooter to contest with his fast and high release, and hit many threes off the catch. Jake also showed many flashes as a pick-and-roll ball handler, making very decisive and smart reads and whipping accurate passes with one hand routinely. Jake showed that his skill set is extremely vast and that he impacts the game in a multitude of ways on both ends.

showed his two-way versatile skill set consistently versus Madrid. Jake has a tight handle for a player of his length and used that to get to the rack with his quick and decisive dribble moves. Jake would often set the offense and whip really smart passes with one hand in pick and roll actions, but was also used as the screener in those same actions, showing his offensive versatility. Jake has solid mechanics and great touch that he flashed often with his exceptional shooting behind the arc in this contest. On the other side of the ball, Jake was also the most impactful and versatile player on his team. Guarding players of every position and locking them up. He was the only player who gave Jevyn many fits in this game as a defender. Versus Madrid, Jake showed that he can do it all and some.
