Handing out All-State honors by class size, now moving to 2A.

Stats in italics are per game for the entirety of the 2025-2026 basketball season.

Player of the Year: 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='2731635' first='Malachi' last='Rice'] (Centerville)
30.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4 assists, 3.2 steals, 51.1 FG%, 33.3 3PT%, 82.1 FT%

A volume scorer amongst volume scorers, Rice did it all on the offensive end for Centerville this season. Almost tripling the scoring output of the Big Reds' second-leading scorer, the senior guard held a massive responsibility on his shoulders for offensive output. He lived up to the calling. Averaging over 30 points per game as the state's leading scorer in all classes, Rice shot the ball efficiently, making over half of his 495 shots taken from the field.

Rice, the lead guard, primary ball-handler and primary scorer for Centerville, not only scored with the best in the state, but he had a tight handle, as well, making him signficantly more difficult to guard. A springy player that could rise and fire above most defenses, Rice got up on his jump shot, in addition to a high, quick release, making his jumper difficult to guard. That burst also aided in his shot creation off the dribble, giving him extra space on step backs. His first-step was tough to manage for most defenders, too, and, able to finish with both hands at the rim, attacked from anywhere on the floor. Maintaining balance, even against physical defenders, Rice almost always found a way to get his feet set, and he made shots from a variety of angles, too.

2027 [player_tooltip player_id='3343951' first='Oscar' last='Cline'] (Louisa-Muscatine)
22.9 points, 15.4 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 2.7 blocks, 47.1 FG%

A double-double machine for Louisa-Muscatine this fall, Cline took a major step forward in production from his sophomore campaign. Cline made the jumps from 11.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game to more than doubling his output from 2024-25 at 22.9 points and 15.4 rebounds per contest. A tough matchup for guards and bigs alike, Cline began his career as a 5-foot-11 guard that grew in the offseason to now serve as the Falcons big man.

His versatility mostly comes on the defensive side of the floor, as Cline kept his quickness, adding it to his repertoirse as a defender, able to chase down blocks in transition and use his newfound length to swat attempts at easy twos. He got those much more consistently on his own this season, now able to throw it down when he gets an open floor to lead a fastbreak. Effectively using his new size around the rim to mix it up with other players his size, Cline is a bouncy athlete that feasted around the rim as a rebounder and on layups.

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1765513' first='Ryan' last='Clair'] (Kuemper Catholic)
17 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.7 steals, 1.2 blocks, 62.9 FG%, 39.3 3PT%

Stepping up in a massive way after their star player, [player_tooltip player_id='1765503' first='Brock' last='Badding'] -- who, by mention in this article would have certainly earned All-State honors in one fashion or another, had he been able to make through the season healthy -- went down just five games into the season, Clair was critical for Kuemper in their run to an appearance in the state title game. The Knights were just different with the athletic big on the court, both offensively and defensively.

On offense, Clair used his size and strength on the interior to finish at the rim and score with ease amongst the trees that 2A offered. Also possessing the ability to step out and shoot it, making just under 40% of his threes this season, Clair provided spacing that allowed his teammates to attack off the dribble. Defensively, he brought a frame that made it unwise to try to get into the paint against the Knights. His presence alone deterred opposing teams from even thinking about going at the rim, and his ability to block shots was critical when opposing teams dared to try to get a bucket in the paint.

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='2413578' first='Dylan' last='Bosma'] (Unity Christian)
18 points, 3.8 assists, 2 steals, 46.3 FG%, 41 3PT%, 82.8 FT%

A score-first guard that became Unity Christian's all-time leader in scoring this winter, Bosma had one of the most consistent and, what felt like, automatic jumpers in the state. Best exemplified in the Knights' semifinal win over Regina Catholic at the state tournament, Bosma would absolutely nuclear, drilling nine of his 13 attempted threes, scoring all 27 of his points from beyond the arc. Once Bosma gets going, he's nearly impossible to stop. The embodiment of the fire emoji on NBA 2K, when Bosma was feeling it, not many players in the state could match his scoring output.

His quick trigger as a shooter and near-constant movement offensively make him an exhausting cover, too. With a skillset that will translage to the next level as a score-first guard that can light it up, Bosma would fit in well with a fast-paced offense that likes to fill up the box score as much as possible.

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1978108' first='Mick' last='Hoffman'] (Cascade)
24.4 points, 6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 47.4 FG%, 77.3 FT%

One of the top pure scorers in 2A, Hoffman is an all-around athlete that took his prowess onto the basketball court after an all-state caliber season on the gridiron, too. A guard with a smooth athlete, Hoffman often pulled up from the mid-range and three-point land with a quick release to score at-will against opponents in Eastern Iowa. Cascade often ran plays strictly for their senior to score, running off screens throughout the defense to get an open shot, operating in the DHO on the perimeter to get him down hill or isolating and letting him go to work. No matter the set up, Hoffman would punish teams that gave him anything to work with.

His ability to never get sped up, jump stop and pull up, especially in the mid-range was, frankly, similar to what Bennett Stirtz has done at Iowa and Drake the last two seasons. Able to fadeaway from the bucket to get shots up and over defenders, Hoffman hit those middies with consistency. Getting two feet in the paint and getting defenses to collapse, Hoffman would get those jumpers off, or step through and finish at the rim.

Second Team:

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1978103' first='Alec' last='Lovely'] (Treynor)
2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1765543' first='Quinn' last='Street'] (Osage)
2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2419757' first='Bryer' last='Putman'] (Wilton)
2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2379147' first='Reese' last='Montgomery'] (Red Oak)
2026 [player_tooltip player_id='2413648' first='Logan' last='Kempema'] (Hinton)

Third Team:

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='2413626' first='Landon' last='De Stigter'] (Western Christian)
2026 [player_tooltip player_id='2617484' first='Carter' last='Lightfoot'] (MFL-MarMac)
2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2772345' first='Tayden' last='Moret'] (Western Christian)
2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2419699' first='Braylon' last='Bingham'] (Pleasantville)
2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2420786' first='AJ' last='Harder'] (Tri-Center)

Honorable Mention: 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2419800' first='Tyce' last='Van Donge'] (Unity Christian); 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2523908' first='Jaxen' last='Christiansen'] (Northeast); 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1765541' first='Conley' last='Schauf'] (Monticello); 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2419764' first='Oaklan' last='Jirak'] (Wilton); 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1765547' first='Benny' last='Waller'] (Aplington-Parkersburg); 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2419768' first='Tate' last='Wallace'] (Regina Catholic); 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='2724147' first='Gilbert' last='Flagel'] (Pella Christian); 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='2287857' first='Brayden' last='Hoben'] (Grandview Christian); 2026 Tristan Faillie (Anamosa); 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='2629262' first='Amani' last='Robinson'] (Columbus Catholic);
