Ray Furney Classic – Ramsey’s Day One Top Performers

It was a great 12-hour marathon of hoops between Lawrenceburg High School and Greendale Middle School for the annual Ray Furney Classic. We had the opportunity to see 11 of the 12 teams during Friday's "pool play" games. He makes tough jump shots, handles the ball well, and is one of the best perimeter defenders in the state. The junior guard scored 20 points to lead Plainfield to a 71-39 win over Guerin Catholic on Friday morning. The 6'7" junior forward displayed strong hands, a soft finishing touch, and his high-level rebounding ability in that one. However, he was even better in Cardinal Ritter's first game of the day. The 6'8" forward's athleticism and length led to a dominant performance on the offensive glass against an undersized opponent. Seven of his 11 rebounds came on the offensive end of the floor. He scored on three progressively more difficult turnaround jump shots in the mid-post to get the Panthers going. The 6'5" junior forward went on to lead the way with 18 points and 5 assists in a 67-49 win over Centerville. Davis is having an outstanding season for Shortridge and was very good against the #1 3A team in the state on Friday morning. He finished with 20 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Blue Devils. He started the day with 31 points, but New Palestine fell to Cardinal Ritter 70-66. Davison also scored a team-high 21 points in their loss later on in the day to Blackhawk Christian. The talented junior guard scored 17 points in their morning loss to Plainfield. LaCross was excellent for Blackhawk Christian in their win over Cardinal Ritter finishing with 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists to lead the Braves. He led the Braves in scoring with 23 points in a 73-62 win over New Palestine. Then, Rhinehart finished with 16 points in an 83-68 win over Cardinal Ritter. The DePaul signee finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocked shots. However, he was even better in the evening. He poured in 32 points on nearly perfectly shooting from the floor in an 85-49 win over Castle.
