A junior that you need to start keeping an eye on the rest of the season and into his senior year is Bloomington South’s power forward Duncan Combs Duncan Combs 6'5" | PF Bloomington South | 2027 State IN . A multi-sport athlete, Combs is one of the best power forward in all the state and just has an ability to take over a game for the Panthers. With great size at 6’5, Combs also has some real nice skill when it comes to the midrange and around the basket. You can watch him when Columbus North opens up Sectional play vs Martinsville.

Out of all the prospects that I was able to get eyes on during week 12 of the season, junior forward Duncan Combs Duncan Combs 6'5" | PF Bloomington South | 2027 State IN might have been the one I came away most impressed with. To put things pretty simple, Combs is a very skilled stretch four that has such a smooth and consistent mid-range game. With Bloomington South being a team that likes to work the ball, Combs often gets the final touch where he often finds a scoring angle. He also showed some upside on the defensive end with his multiple blocks he had against Southport on Thursday night. A player to keep an eye on in the southern Indiana area.

The first few possessions of Bloomington South’s contest with Centerville showcased Combs’ skill level perfectly. He scored on three progressively more difficult turnaround jump shots in the mid-post to get the Panthers going. The 6’5″ junior forward went on to lead the way with 18 points and 5 assists in a 67-49 win over Centerville. Combs’ skill level as a scoring 4-man is very impressive.

Also the quarterback for the Panthers football team, Combs is a good prospect on the hardwood as well. The 6’5″ forward has a strong build and excellent footwork around the basket. He operates in the mid-post, can face-up out to the perimeter and drive it against closeouts, and rebounds at a high level. Combs finished just shy of a double-double with 11 points and 9 rebounds. It will be interesting to see how his basketball recruitment shapes up compared to the opportunities he wil have as a football prospect.

We at Prep Hoops Indiana watched Combs play late in the high school season, have seen him play with Midwest Basketball Club, and just saw him play with Bloomington South at IU Team Camp last weekend. The 6’5″ forward continues to get better and better. Also a star quarterback for the Panthers, Combs has all of the requisite strength and athleticism for the next level. He is physical around the basket, moves incredibly well which makes him a matchup problem at the “4”, and is skilled enough to make plays from the perimeter as well. Combs rebounds at a high-level despite not being the tallest at his position. His continued strong play has catapulted him up in the rankings from #52 to #30.

There is no doubt that Combs has the physical and athletic tools to compete at a high level. We had the chance to watch him play with his Midwest Basketball Club 3SSB team on Saturday afternoon and he definitely looked the part. The 6’5″ forward from Bloomington South had a nice left-handed finish while running the floor in transition and drove it right from the wing for a physical finish as well. His ability to attack closeouts, use his size to finish inside, and rebound on both ends of the floor stood out in the game we watched. Look for him to continue to be a stock-rising prospect in Indiana’s Class of 2027.

We had the opportunity to get eyes on this prospect not too long ago when we travelled to Bloomington High School South to watch the Panthers take on Northview. Combs really popped in that game showcasing his fluid mobility and skill level as a 6’5″-6’6″ sophomore forward. His best basketball is still ahead of him.
