The Suburban East Preview

The SEC of Minnesota was won by Cretin-Derham Hall for the first time in six seasons and they look like they are about to start a run of titles. What's interesting is..... that may have been their first league title in six years, but they have gone to state six of the last eight seasons! That means they get better throughout the year nearly every year. And with the talent they have now, we feel a run coming.   Conference Commentary   Top Ten in State: Cretin-Derham Hall, East Ridge   CDH is a state title contender. They have enough talent, they have enough players, their staff has proved time and time again that they can get this team to a state title level by March in so many different scenarios. The only items keeping them from preseason number one is the depth of the Wayzata program and we have to see how the new big CDH talent gels together. They are top two to start the season with a real chance to take home the crown.   East Ridge is on the very edge of the top ten at ten. They have an excellent backcourt that will win a lot of games and potential up front to be good. They should be a near 20 win team this year but those East Ridge vs CDH games are going to be real interesting.   Top Ten Potential: Mounds View   The Mustangs return three starters that were key players from a 19-win team and let's be honest here, they seem to play above expectations all the time. And with their senior class with so many shooters, they should be able to play above expectations again.   Compete with Most: Park of Cottage Grove, Stillwater, Woodbury, Irondale, Roseville,   Park has a nice senior guard group so they will be competitive but they have a new coach and there is uncertainty over there. Curious eyes will be on the Pack to see what they can do. With Stillwater having the Zollars being very good and some really good young size plus some returning role guys, they potential is there for them to make a nice jump. As for Woodbury, they were a nine win team a season ago that lost two close games to Park, but they have their top two scorers back and seem to be in a more stable spot. Irondale was the worst team in the league a year ago but with Jake scoring and Cramble around the bucket, they should be taking a step forward. Two years ago they were a big surprise and I think it could happen again. Then you have Roseville.   Rebuilding: White Bear Lake, Forest Lake   White Bear Lake was a 3 win team last year. They lost their top scorer but they have some good young players. But again, a three win team last year who had a lot of struggle.
