Bringing in soft touch inside the arc, the lanky 6’5 forward was among the more skilled prospects at his size from my time at Manual on Saturday. Capable of pivoting around defenders into floaters and high hand finishes, Ruong was certainly more than meets the eye.
Rietsma recorded at least three blocks in his matchup yesterday afternoon versus Black Hills Express, coming at the point of attack or from help side rotations. A fairly mobile interior defender, he has excellent timing, getting up just in time to swat away shots. On the other end, he made himself available through timely baseline cuts and the occasional spot-up three.
Perez showed value knocking down perimeter jumpers when provided space, capable of keeping defenses honest. He is a high upside defender, capable of matching up with 1 through 3, given his wiry strong frame combined with the impactful lateral quickness. Another area of impact was his effort on the glass, assertive creating putbacks off of second chance opportunities.
Sekue will be an intriguing name through the coming seasons, an athletic wing with defensive prowess. Among the most fluid athletes at his size in that 2027 class for this state, the forward is an above the rim playmaker on either end. He already brings some scoring chops to the table, knocking down a few mid-range pull-ups on Saturday, fluid maneuvering into attempts regardless of a contest.
Active swatting away shot attempts at the rim, Dixon continued to provide activity on the defensive end, particularly within the paint. A strong forward who has shown the ability to guard multiple positions, he remains one of the strongest names left on the 2024 board for this state. Along the perimeter, he stayed aggressive seaking out three point attempts, active off the catch.
Fiedler remains one of the most well rounded forwards in that 2026 class for this state, a dependable three point shooter when provided space. Even more efficient around the paint, the forward is consistent with either hand, just as effective regardless of contact at the rim. Continuing to improve his handle when attacking from the elbows or perimeter, Fiedler continues to make steady improvements to his game.
Highlights
Duncan finds a way to the ball seemingly whenever a loose ball is available. Bringing constant hustle, he has found a way to be one of the most impactful athletes on a dominant Mountain Stars 2027 group playing up in 17U for this event. There are few names in the upcoming classes with his nose for the ball, seemingly always in position to put pressure on the rim or retain possession from a loose ball. Although in 8th grade, Duncan can easily throw down dunks, likely among the top prospects in the state’s 2028 class in due time.
Bakken is among the only guards on this list, however his constant hustle and high motor made a positive impact with the Flyers. Active crashing for offensive rebounds, there are few guards with his strength and IQ when grabbing a board. Defensively, they hold their own at the point of attack, bringing in a low center of gravity and strong frame for his position.
