MVP:
Probably the hardest call to make was on which of the top performers earned the nod for MOP of the camp. At the end of the day, it was Caleb Rimmer Caleb Rimmer 6’4″ | SF Russell | 2027 State KY that left the most lasting impression on me. Rimmer plays super hard and doesn’t take plays off and that may be what separated him from other top performers. Caleb was able to score inside and out and often bullied defenders off the dribble and in the post. He’ll need to transition to more of a wing position down the line but on Saturday, the bruising forward from Russell was the camp MOP.
Highlights
Top Performers (No Order):
Jack is another prospect who was right in the mix for MOP but his legs faded down the stretch and shots stopped falling. He also started settling for some bad shots as his gas tank was emptying. Long term, Logsdon is a top 3 prospect in this class right now. He didn’t do anything on Saturday to cause that status to slip.
Highlights
Simpson is a prospect whose potential is through the roof and you can see it with his eye catching plays like several of the dunks he had yesterday. Tyce definitely would have had the most impressive highlight reel of the day. There were times between highlights where he coasted and didn’t make much of an impact. Once he eliminates those stretches, his ceiling is going to be crazy high.
Gay is another player whose decision making and shot making sputtered as the last games of the day wound down but he had a very strong start to the day and another scout said he though Montez was the best player in the gym when he watched. He’ll definitely be thrown into the fire at GRC this season but his ceiling as a prospect is high.
A player who was way off the radar coming into Saturday, Henning made a nice impression as a player who knows how to use his size. He is a good two handed rebounder and above average shot blocker. His offense around the bucket was solid but he will need refinement in his screen and roll/pop game as he gets older.
Highlights
Another new name coming out of Saturday, Woods is a big body who showed the ability to score with his back to the bucket and also flashed some ability to play with the ball in his hands and get to the rim. I’m not sure I saw a single jumpshot from Brock all day so that will be the next aspect to add to his offensive repertoire.
Dayes may be the fastest player in the class, with or without the ball in his hands. Brandon was lightning quick in transition and never seemed to get tired. He was also one of the few kids who actually put an emphasis on his on ball defense, often making opposing guards give up the ball so he’d stop hounding them. If he grows a couple more inches, he’s going to have D1 potential as a point guard.
LJ had the best highlight of camp when he took flight and hammered a big dunk in his last game of the day. He was consistent all day long and never forced his offense. Holman showed he can play point or shooting guard and cuts through open space without the ball, always working to get open. He looks like a top 10 prospect in the class when rankings come out.
Highlights
Coffman was a slow starter at camp but really ramped up his production as the games went along. Nolan is a little stiff but that could be because he’s growing. If he’s not growing, he’s going to need some yoga and plyometrics to get more fluid athletically and show he can guard. He’s got the offensive tools to be an impact player and should improve as a defender as time rolls along. Definitely a nice prospect in West Ky.
