Continue ReadingThe holidays were absolutely stacked with tournaments and Washington teams converged all over the state, as well as participating in tournaments across California and Arizona. Every week there are more and more outstanding performances and it’s time to examine some of the best from Weeks 4 and 5 of the high school season.
Malakai Weimer Malakai Weimer 6'3" | SF Skyview | 2026 State WA | Skyview – 19 points, 20 rebounds vs Rogers (Puyallup) 12/20
Just a freshman, Weimer is starting to make his case for one of the more physically talented players in his class. He’s already got the strength to maul his way to rebounds and shrug off defenders to finish at the rim. Weimer only stands at about 6’3, so this string of double-doubles, not to mention 20 rebounds, is extremely impressive.
Will Landram Will Landram 6'6" | SF Gig Harbor | 2023 State WA | Gig Harbor – 32 points vs Lynden 12/22
This was a marquee matchup of top teams from 3A and 2A clashing at the midway point in the season. Landram looked like he had circled this game for a while. He was locked in from the jump, drilling shots from long range, using ball fakes to throw off defenders, and looking confident from all levels. He finished the first quarter with 13 points and didn’t look back.
Leyton Martin Leyton Martin 6'0" | PG Arlington | 2025 State WA | Arlington – 22 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, 7 steals vs Lake Stevens 12/22
I try to get new names in here most weeks but some guys just continue to put out crazy stat lines. Martin shows up on this week’s edition with another near quadruple-double. He’s averaging about 8 assists-per-game so far, and this game was his third in a row with 10-plus helpers. The scoring comes and goes but his floor recognition is an exciting aspect to see from such a young player.
Cavin Holden Cavin Holden 6'1" | CG Ra Long | 2023 State WA | R.A. Long – 50 points vs Reynolds 12/28
Am I having deja-vu? Holden was my Week 3 “Big Hoss” after setting a school record with 54 points. Now, he drops his second 50-point game of the season, and at least his third with 40-plus points. There is no denying his scoring ability but don’t forget about his defense either. Holden creates a lot of runouts and easy opportunities by forcing turnovers and applying pressure on the ball.
Ryan Gallagher Ryan Gallagher 6'4" | SG Liberty | 2023 State WA | Liberty (Renton) – 31 points, 17 rebounds vs Roseburg 12/29
Gallagher had a great game against Roseburg, in part because he was able to recognize his size advantage and adjust his game to capitalize on that edge in the paint. Normally an outstanding shooter, Gallagher did most of his work around the rim in this contest and was excellent at using off-ball screens to free himself and get defenders on his hip. He was high-pointing rebounds, getting to the line, and played a physical game from start to finish.
Josiah Pierre Josiah Pierre 6'5" | SF Kamiak | 2023 State WA | Kamiak – 41 points vs Spanaway Lake 12/29
This was one of the better games of the holiday season, with Pierre and Kamiak taking Spanaway Lake into double overtime. Kamiak came away with the win thanks in part to Pierre drilling a contested three-pointer to tie the game at the end of regulation. Josiah had his hands all over this game, using his length to make plays on both ends, finishing strong through traffic, and poking out loose balls on defense. He scored 41 points but he also created a ton of chances by passing the ball as well, recognizing collapsing defense, and hitting guys for open looks.
Jaedyn Brown Jaedyn Brown 6'3" | CG Pullman | 2023 State WA | Pullman – 43 points, 7 rebounds @ Timberlake 12/29
Brown is another player that seems to keep popping up as a Performance of the Week candidate. This time he went off for 43-points and has led Pullman to a 7-0 start to the year. He just picked up a D1 offer from Idaho State and followed it up with 35 and 43-point games. He’s known as a sharpshooter but Brown brings so much more to the table. He’s a gritty player that rises to the occasion, is a tough rebounder despite his skinny build, and has the overall high IQ to be an additional playmaker on the floor.
Miles Heide Miles Heide 6'7" | C Mount Si | 2023 State #274 Nation WA | Mount Si – 15 points, 20 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 blocks, 4 steals vs Monsignor Scanlan 12/29
This is just a stacked stat line from a guy dominating the first half of the year. The San Diego State commit is averaging about 18 points and 15 boards per game, and contributes in other areas too, chipping in 3 blocks and 2.5 assists per game. So, while this looks like a big game for Heide, it’s been close to the norm so far for the talented big man.
Tait Spencer Tait Spencer 6'3" | SG Great Futures Prep | 2025 State WA | Battle Ground – 46 points vs Kamiak 12/30
There has been a lot of attention directed at Southwest Washington this year. Cavin Holden Cavin Holden 6'1" | CG Ra Long | 2023 State WA and Beckett Currie Beckett Currie 6'0" | PG Camas | 2025 State WA have been balling out and breaking records, but another guy doling out monster games is Tait Spencer Tait Spencer 6'3" | SG Great Futures Prep | 2025 State WA . One of the top scorers from last season, Spencer has taken it to another level in his junior season, averaging almost 35 points a game. He’s been a class above just about every opponent he has faced so far and took it to a solid Kamiak squad in the championship game of the Fort Vancouver Holiday Invitational.
“Big Hoss” Performance of the Week
Levi Pepper Levi Pepper 6'6" | SF Selah | 2023 State WA | Selah – 36 points, 18 rebounds vs Mark Morris 12/29
There were a lot of big numbers dropped in this edition of my Performance of the Week but Pepper caught my eye and I couldn’t look away from this game. Not only did he nearly achieve a 35-point 20-rebound game, but he also did it against the now fourth-ranked 2A team. Physically, Pepper is a lot to deal with. He’s 6’6, runs well, is built well, and can go from gliding down the court to exploding toward the rim. He’s got Selah on the bubble in the 2A, and playing in the CWAC, he’s going to need every drop of sweat he’s got to get the Vikings to State. But I’ll let him enjoy this week momentarily as the “Big Hoss” of Weeks 4 and 5.
