2028 Rankings: Breaking Down Guards in the Top 50 (Pt 3)

We have a handful of guards here who bring big motors to the floor and a few more who can set the pace for their teams. Let's get in to it with these six standout junior guards.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {"level":3} --> <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><em>Big Engine</em> </h3> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2746873' first='Tyler' last='Marlow'] Shorewood</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Marlow is a tough-minded guard who has really been rolling to end the summer. He has the work rate and the athleticism to be a real factor in a lot of areas, and has been really dangerous getting downhill and to the rim. He's been evolving as a shooter too, and should be one of the top players in that Wesco 2A/3A this winter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2548202' first='Ellis' last='Mosley'] Emerald Ridge</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We saw the type of efficiency and all-around timely play Mosley can bring to the floor last winter, and this coming season we'll get to see him in a more lead role on a new look Emerald Ridge team. He's got some instinctive playmaking in his game and really reads the floor well through all phases of the game. He's a guy who has been trending up since last year and looks ready to have a big winter for the Jags.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {"level":3} --> <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><em>Set the Pace</em></h3> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2835724' first='Kyler' last='Skogstad'] Bellevue Christian</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Skogstad came through last winter for Bellevue Christian, earning league MVP and leading the Vikings to a 16-7 record. He's a strong guard who can play physically with the ball, shoots the three well, and can really control things in the half court for his team. Last year was a big step forward for the junior, and he's continued to roll through the summer with his blend of shooting, skill, and toughness.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2629631' first='Carter' last='Hagen'] Archbishop Murphy</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The quick guard from up north plays with a lot of gusto and has the kind of grit and creativity that helps him play with a balance of scoring and playmaking. He's shot the three at a good clip over the summer and has a great pull-up shot to get into off his quick bursts into gaps. He should continue to lead Archbishop Murphy this winter with his ability to play with pace and create off the bounce.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2751611' first='Jason' last='Dollar'] Roosevelt</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another tough-minded guard who can play with pace, Dollar is an intense player who can use a quick, compact move to get by his man, and matches that speed and intensity on the defensive end as well. He's going to look to attack inside, can make some nice finds in the pick-and-roll, and will space the floor from three. Look for him to lead Roosevelt this winter as they move on without a handful of seniors from last season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2935304' first='Cason' last='Thompson'] Camas</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Thompson is a pretty underrated guard from Southwest Washington. He's been a solid contributor at Camas and does a great job surveying the floor, staying aggressive yet patient, and keeping plays alive with his dribble. He has a little shake to his game to get into gaps, create out of paint touches, and has enough touch to be a solid scorer for them as well. Look out for him and Camas as an underdog team of sorts after graduating Ethan Harris and some other key guys from last year's team. Thompson represents a pretty tough squad who will battle for four quarters.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
