2028 Rankings: Breaking Down Guards in the Top 50 (Pt 2)

Let's take a look at some of the high IQ standouts running the show, as well as some versatile guards with size who can create a lot of mismatches.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {"level":3} --> <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><em>High IQ Point Men</em></h3> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2751572' first='Jaylen' last='Keowla'] Kentridge</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>He's been a very mature guard since he stepped on the floor for the Chargers his freshman year. Just a guy who will be in the right spots to make plays and make sure his teammates get in the right spots too. Has some real strength to his game to take smaller guards inside and can stroke from outside too. Will be the numero uno leader for them this season and will be looking to build off of a strong summer.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2954844' first='JR' last='Depell'] Selah</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another very poised guard who doesn't always need to look to score in order to add a lot the game when he's out there. Is able to comfortably handle on ball pressure and still get his team into sets. Showed how he can be that important game manager for Seattle Select while playing with the fire to make little plays like crashing in for offensive boards or forcing ball handlers into mistakes. Will be asked to score quite a bit more with Selah and will form one half of one of the top backcourts in the 2A this winter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2746863' first='JuJu' last='Duckett'] O'Dea</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A smart and tough guard who will play at his pace, has enough wiggle to get by his man and create to the rim where he can pass or finish. Has some strength to finish through contact and generally plays well off of two feet, having that presence to find the next option if things get plugged up. Just a very solid guard who should play a bigger role at O'Dea this winter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {"level":3} --> <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><em>Versatility &amp; Size</em></h3> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2547463' first='Matthew' last='Fredrickson'] Bellevue</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The two-way impact player makes he way over to Bellevue for this upcoming season. He's a guy who can get some motion to the offense with his penetration and high-level finishing. Can be a playmaker on both ends with his reactions and knack for getting his hands on the ball. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2729711' first='Jericho' last='Julmist'] Elite Prep</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Elite Prep off guard is a strong player who has really added some athleticism to his 6-foot-4 frame over the last year. He's always been a kid who can shoot the rock but he's added to his ability to get into those jumpers from different spots off the bounce and play with a strong base.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2935305' first='Kelan' last='Moore'] Mt. Spokane</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Stepping into a bigger role this winter, Moore will most likely play both on and off the ball. He has the handle and length to win in some one-on-one's and create off the dribble, and if he's knocking down jumpers he's a really tough matchup.
