Fredrickson looked really strong ending the winter season with his downhill attacking and pursuant defense. He has continued that impactful two-way play this spring, and his ability to instigate action, force turnovers, and inject energy into the game has been pretty impressive. At 6-foot-5, he has the size and length to be flexible across multiple positions, and he’s also shown the quick twitch reactions and jumping to be quick to the ball, both in passing lanes and coming off the rim.
Took charge of his Tacoma 4 team as far as being an offensive creator. We saw it with Auburn during the winter season, but Fredrickson can be an extremely effective downhill player who not only can get buckets at the rim, but also just creates action and moves defenses with his ability to dart down lanes. Earned quite a few trips to the foul line as well and controlled a lot of the tempo with his play to the rim.
He’s been playing with great energy in several ways to end the year. He’s been pretty focused on getting to the rim with his perimeter catches, and when he gets there, he’s shown some toughness inside to finish, or follow up his own misses and complete the play. Opportunistic defense has also led to some big steals in passing lanes, and he helped spur a late push by the Trojans last night.
The freshman wing/guard was an excellent performer over the spring and summer and has proven to be a solid player in Auburn’s rotation this winter. He’s got some length and some inherent feel for how to score the ball, especially with getting to the rim and hitting those midrange shots. He does well to incorporate ball fakes and jabs, has a good initial burst and a little shiftiness getting downhill.
Matthew is a dynamic wing who is going to be a top player in this 2028 class. He can score from all 3 levels, being able to finish in the paint, get to his mid-range spots, and knock down catch and shoot threes from anywhere on the perimeter. He has a high potential and will be a problem for opposing teams for years.
