Marlow, Albright Highlight 4A/3A Players Stepping Up in Round 2

We saw some big performances in round two at the Tacoma Dome. Here are a bunch of players who stepped up to help their teams compete and contributed to some intense matchups throughout the day.    20 pts 4 blks   Marlow brought some important energy from the start with some highlight blocks early in the game. He's a solid athlete who found some offensive success using his strength to attack downhill and get to the rim, then mixed in some jumpers in the midrange. Showed a lot of grit to keep the Stormrays in the game.     11 pts 6 rebs 3/5 3PT   Edmonds-Woodway focused a lot of its defensive effort on clogging the lane and making things hard for Morningstar, and Timperley took advantage of the added space on the perimeter to knock down a game-high three 3-pointers. He's got some size at 6-foot-4 and was their most efficient offensive threat on the day.     No big numbers here, but Wilkes was called on late to bring some extra size to the floor and try to slow down [player_tooltip player_id='1587955' first='Parker' last='Mills'] inside. His energy was infectious, and he did a good job not forcing things inside, making good passes out when he was surrounded, and playing stout defense inside.     13 pts 6 rebs   Turner turned it on late in the contest with his rim takes and second efforts inside. He had a big burst of energy and production that helped his team pull away against Redmond and really energized his squad to seal the win.     3 pts 6 rebs 2 blks   It was a pretty rough game offensively for the entire Riverhawks team, but I still liked the way Larios was attacking. He shows some decent strength and ability to attack with catches around the paint, and he stood out for his defensive effort. He had two blocks and one steal, but also adjusted numerous shots, was strong on the glass, and added in a few deflections in passing lanes.     16 pts 7 rebs 8/13 FG   Molina has really come alive in the latter part of the year, and the only real way to describe his game is to call him the "middy-god." He hoisted up one three yesterday, but just about every single shot he took was a midrange catch-and-shoot or pull-up. It's a unique skill set, and he was incredibly efficient as well as securing some key rebounds.     12 pts 5 rebs 4/5 FG   Matthews has shown big-time flashes in his first season at AMV, and this game was a good representation of his progress. He's mainly stood out for his shooting, and he went 3-for-3 behind the arc yesterday, but he also showed improvement as a rebounder and defender, which will be vital in the young wings' development.     15 pts 6 rebs 3 stls   He's been playing with great energy in several ways to end the year. He's been pretty focused on getting to the rim with his perimeter catches, and when he gets there, he's shown some toughness inside to finish, or follow up his own misses and complete the play. Opportunistic defense has also led to some big steals in passing lanes, and he helped spur a late push by the Trojans last night.     17 pts 9 rebs 8/10 FG   Albright displayed some great footwork and quick moves in the post, as well as good patience once he got to the rim to find his window and finish inside. He was super efficient, took good shots, and his size inside gave some balance to the Grizzlies, who were pretty effective behind the arc as well.     14 pts 12 rebs   Grabarski is a big athletic wing, and he demonstrated his ability to get to the hoop in different ways yesterday. He worked from wing and corner catches to find driving lanes and finish around defenders, and also worked quickly off some high-post catches and curls to beat his man and get to the rim. Also had a big game on the glass, using that size and athleticism to sky for boards.     16 pts 6 rebs 5 asts 5/12 3PT   He seemed to come through in big spots during the game to keep Liberty within reach. Did a great job moving without the rock, cutting and relocating after moving the ball, which resulted in some wide open threes. He's a guy you can't leave alone behind the arc.     15 pts 8 rebs 6/9 FG   Williams continues to impress me more and more as the year goes on. Phenomenal athlete, yet he's been more efficient because he's seeing space better and harnessing that athleticism with more control. He's still going to try to dunk everything, and that aggression has been key to his success in his freshman year.     17 pts 8 rebs (5 off) 8/10 FG   Between Skaggs and Norrah creating off the bounce and spacing the floor from three, there is a real need for someone like Jones on Bellevue's squad. He's been awesome around the rim with his rebounding prowess, quick reactions, and ability to be a multiple leaper. He can give those second and third efforts to stay with a play and finish offensive rebounds with buckets. His effort and putbacks killed a few moments when it seemed Auburn Mountainview was building up some steam.
