2028 Rankings: Guard Stock-Risers

We have a diverse group of guards here rising up the rankings in this update to the 2028 class. Point guards, shooters, size, impact two-way players, this list touches on five high-level stock risers who have continued to impress from winter to spring.    The Tacoma product moves up into our top spot in this update of the 2028 class rankings after an outstanding sophomore season. He made some big statements throughout the year with both his production and his poise. His 40-point 20-rebound game against Mt. Tahoma in late January was a spectacle of athleticism and determination. And in front of a huge crowd at the State Championship game, coming out down 38-8 at half, he led the Abes on a furious comeback to win the second half 45-37, albeit still coming up short in the end. He has displayed an uncommon killer instinct, and the growth he made athletically last season, paired with his innate playmaking on both ends, has us excited for what's in store this winter.     Rainier Beach returns eight key contributors from last year's squad, and part of their massive success last season was due to their depth of talent. Wright is a perfect example of that depth. He will pair with [player_tooltip player_id='2194341' first='KJ' last='Hightower'] to make sure the ball flows and the talented cast around them continue to eat. Wright is a very skilled ball handler with the quickness to weave in and out of defenses, and the toughness to continually attack inside. He's shown great touch attacking around the paint, and his pace and ability to get into gaps puts a lot of pressure on defenses to execute rotations.     Matthews has had a great spring, looking more aggressive with his touches, and doing a better job of attacking closeouts and showing strength by the rim. He has a pure lefty stroke from 3-point range and has shot 39.6% from distance on 6.6 attempts a game over two EYCL sessions. We saw a lot of that outside shooting during the winter season, so the real growth has been his play around the cup. He shot 83.3% from the foul line on 3.0 attempts a game over the first session, and although the number of attempts dropped off in the second session, his rebounds went up from 4.0 in session one, to 5.5 in session two, including an 18-point 10-rebound double-double.     Fredrickson looked really strong ending the winter season with his downhill attacking and pursuant defense. He has continued that impactful two-way play this spring, and his ability to instigate action, force turnovers, and inject energy into the game has been pretty impressive. At 6-foot-5, he has the size and length to be flexible across multiple positions, and he's also shown the quick twitch reactions and jumping to be quick to the ball, both in passing lanes and coming off the rim.     Depell has been a very steady and reliable point guard this spring with Seattle Select. He's a got some sneaky quickness that's amplified by his ability to change speeds and read defenses. And he's a kid who always seems to play from a position of strength, whether it is playing off two around the paint or being in his stance guarding the ball. Being ready and being able to read the game allows him to get a step on defenders while attacking, and rack up deflections and steals on the other end.
