Leyton is looking to carry Arlington to the state tournament and make a run. They have been playing steady all season, with Leyton being the main ball handler and scorer for the team. He adjusts to what the defense gives him quickly, being able to get his buckets either way. During the district semi-finals and a trip to state on the line, Martin had 22 points, 16 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Leyton is a top player in the senior class and he has been showing it this season with some huge performances for his team. He puts the team on his back and does such a good job at not only creating his own shot but also getting his teammates open for easy buckets as well. He went toe to toe with Lynden Christian’s Gannon Dysktra the other day, coming back down by 18 to win the game. Martin dropped 45 points, 11 rebounds, and had 4 steals.

Martin has shown the state he can play with the best of them and on the biggest stage too. He does all the things you’d expect an all-state caliber guard to do and some. There is no doubt he has the pedigree of putting up stat lines worthy of a POY nod and it should be an exciting senior year for him as Arlington bumps up to play in the WesCo 4A, and against another 4A POY candidate in Josiah Lee.

Leyton is going to have a big senior year, already being a great team leader and facilitator of the offense. He is a lights out shooter who has a quick release and has amazing change of speed to his game. He is one of the better point guards in the entire state as he matches up well to the top guards who are being recruited by high Division 1 schools. Those schools need to take a look at Leyton next season. On the football field, his leadership for his team is also apparent as he is the QB of the squad. His vision to find his receivers on the field carries over to the basketball court as he finds his teammates in transition well.

Another instinctual and high IQ player, Martin makes the most of his touches and seems to almost always make the right play. We saw how he can be the top scoring option in the high school season but with this group at Seattle Select he’s showcasing his ability to distribute the ball to talented guys around him, draw multiple defenders, and make the right find for assists. He can still go get a bucket when needed but he can also be a glue guy at the point who does all the little things to keep his team running at maximum output.

The aforementioned Martin put in another excellent game against Shorewood Monday night. He started out showcasing some pinpoint passes to the post over the top of the defense and continued to dime guys up throughout the game. He worked a lot off of left-hand drives and was able to go to a hooking left-hand pass time and again when the defense closed in on him, finding open teammates by the hoop. He not only drew a crucial foul near the end of the third to earn three shots at the line, but also closed out the first half with a contested deep 3 at the buzzer. In the second half he was able to get a lot going to the rim and showed some acrobatic finishing to sweep the ball around outstretched hands. Martin also showed some high IQ finishes, shooting off different footing at the rim and several times getting shots up quick at the rim to counter potential shot blockers.
