Player of the Year – Cam Ward | wing | Largo
Ward is primed for a huge sophomore year for Largo. He asserted himself last season as a freshman and improved drastically in terms of polishing his overall game. The 6-foot-7 combo forward can handle the ball, score in various ways, and has become a walking double-double.
Jeff Exinor Jeff Exinor 6'4" | SF McDonogh | 2025 State #272 Nation MD | wing | McDonogh
Exinor is a do-it-all type of player for McDonogh. At 6-foot-4, he’s not quite tall enough to be a four, but he certainly checks all of the boxes having to do with strength and physicality. Offensively he can step out beyond the arc and knock down three’s off the catch or drive to the basket where he embraces contact. The Eagles have a young roster, but a lot of their success will rest on Exinor’s production.
Tyler Jackson Tyler Jackson 6'2" | CG St. Frances | 2025 #40 Nation MD | guard | St. Frances
Jackson emerged later in the 2021-22 season off the bench, but due to injuries and other lineup adjustments, found himself in the starting lineup for a few games. He has grown to 6’1-6’2 over the summer and has only expanded his dynamic scoring ability. Despite playing next to two high major senior guards in the backcourt this season, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Jackson record multiple 25+ point outings.
Nykolas Lewis Nykolas Lewis 6'2" | PG Gonzaga | 2025 State #146 Nation MD | guard | Gonzaga
Lewis is considered the top point guard in the area for 2025. It was hard to ignore his efficiency last year. Lewis projects to have a prolific sophomore campaign.
Jalen Rougier-Roane Jalen Rougier-Roane 6'5" | CG Sidwell Friends | 2025 State #142 Nation MD | wing | Sidwell Friends
Rougier-Roane quickly became a go-to guy for Coach Singletary. We expect that trend to continue. In fact, Rougier-Roane is a safe bet to see an increase in usage.
SECOND TEAM
Jaren Curtis Jaren Curtis 6'1" | PG Bishop McNamara | 2025 State MD | guard | Bishop McNamara
Curtis has been a crucial member of the Mustangs rotation from day one. His impact on wins goes beyond the points he scores. If McNamara reaches his full potential this season, it could be because Curtis has taken the next step in his development.
Acaden Lewis Acaden Lewis 6'2" | PG Sidwell Friends | 2025 State #149 Nation MD | guard | Sidwell Friends
Lewis’s arrival at Sidwell gives the Quakers an added dimension. The lefty is a smooth operator in the backcourt who brings versatility as a scorer and playmaker. Lewis is in line for some big games down the road.
Omarr Smith Omarr Smith 6'3" | SG City | 2025 State #319 Nation MD | guard | Archbishop Curley
Smith is one of the best shooters in MD/DC regardless of class. He went on a tear this summer and established his name that will carry over to his sophomore campaign with Curley. He looks well prepared to take over as the primary scorer for the Friars as they look to make a run in the MIAA B Conference.
Akbar Waheed Jr. | wing | Georgetown Prep
Waheed is blossoming into a well-rounded wing prospect. His productivity during the summer was impressive. Waheed is likely in for a breakout year.
Malik Washington Malik Washington 6'5" | SF Archbishop Spalding | 2025 MD | wing | Archbishop Spalding
Washington’s presence alone is the type that can add a handful of wins. He’s one of the best leaders I’ve seen since covering the high school hoops scene and comes with plenty of skill at 6-foot-5. He has a relentless motor that shows with his effort on the glass, finishes with no regard for others when he tries to punch it home on dunks, and can legitimately defend all five positions on the floor.
THIRD TEAM
Derek Dixon Derek Dixon 6'4" | SG Gonzaga | 2025 State #153 Nation MD | guard | Gonzaga
After watching him recently at the DMV Showcase, it’s clear that Dixon is poised for a breakout sophomore campaign. He will be on the scouting report as a deadeye shooter, but should also impact games as a playmaker and defensive menace.
Frankie Mannino Frankie Mannino 6'4" | SF Landon | 2025 State MD | wing | Landon
Mannino will be a double-double threat each time he takes the court for the Bears. His motor and toughness are commendable.
Shane Pendergrass Shane Pendergrass 6'8" | PF Mt. Zion | 2026 State MD | forward | Gwynn Park
Pendergrass will be featured on a Yellow Jackets team with high expectations this year. He can pose matchup problems with his length and versatility in the frontcourt.
Chris Thomas | wing | SEED
SEED will play a more difficult schedule this season, but I expect Thomas to still average crooked numbers as he did his freshman season. He’s a versatile 6-foot-6 forward who uses his size to his advantage by beating other bigs off the bounce or taking smaller defenders into the post.
Omari Witherspoon Omari Witherspoon 6'4" | CG St. John's | 2025 State MD | guard | Archbishop Carroll
Witherspoon emerged as an impact player down the stretch of his freshman season. After a promising summer, he is in line for a bigger role as a sophomore. All signs are pointing to an uptick in the Witherspoon’s stock moving forward.
