Continue ReadingCBG and ETC came together in Richmond this past weekend to put on their Grassroots Tip-Off event, a one day showcase featuring some of the best teams in the DMV and throughout the state of VA.
Here’s a look at part two of the many 16U standouts from the event.
Neiko Mundey Neiko Mundey 6'2" | PG Shabach Christian | 2026 State MD | 6’3” WG | New World
Mundey continues to show that he’s one of the top young scorers in the DMV area, as he had the whole bag on display and made it look easy in the ways he did it. He showed his ability to create space and get to spots effortlessly, and made tough shots consistently from multiple levels. He showed his athleticism and body control when he got downhill, he knocked down shots off the catch and he was dynamite in transition.
Jalyn Collingwood Jalyn Collingwood 6'5" | SF Bishop McNamara | 2026 State MD | 6’7”F | New World
Collingwood has the chance to be one of the breakout players on the 3SSB Circuit, as he’s continued to grow and improve and will have a chance to show his versatility. He’s coming off a great sophomore year at McNamara where he got more confident, and his game has improved a lot in all aspects. At 6’7” he has long arms and made plays above the rim easily, he showed his ability to knock down shots and put it on the deck and he guarded multiple positions too.
Favour Ibe | 7’0” C | New World
Ibe is a new name to keep an eye on in the DMV area, and he made a name for himself at the CBG Tip-Off for sure. He came over to Mt. Zion about midway through last season, and the upside on him is as big as anyone in the 2026 class. First off he’s huge and his presence in the paint can be felt just by being in there, he is quick off his feet to finish above the rim or protect the rim and he’s very mobile with pretty good hands and a lot of room to improve moving forward.
Diego Joy | 6’1” PG | New World
While the three above him will be the top scorers for most of the summer for New World, Joy impressed a lot with his ability to run the show and create for himself and others. He’s a rock at the point guard position, handling pressure well and getting them into their sets while also showing the ability to break down defenders in isolation. He was excellent in transition making good reads and putting pressure on the defense, he showed good quickness and burst and he scored it efficiently when he had to.
Jesiah Hines | 5’10” PG | Twin Hoops 2027
Hines is playing up on the Twin Hoops 16U team that was very impressive, and he was one of the top freshmen in the Roanoke area at North Cross last season. While he isn’t the biggest player, he shows a lot of poise for his age and is able to fill it up in bunches. He shoots the cover off of it both off the catch and off the bounce, he is shifty and knows how to touch the paint where he’s got a great middle game to negate his size and he can make plays for others as well.
Jakolbi Taylor | 5’11” PG | Twin Hoops
Taylor is another guard on this Twin Hoops team who impressed, as the Patrick Henry guard had a few big time performances that put us on notice. He’s another guard who can score it in a lot of different ways while also being a primary ball handler and facilitator too. He has good range and the ability to create space off the bounce, he’s got great speed in the open floor with a quick first step to get by defenders in the half court and he is a pesky defender as well.
Derrius Jones Derrius Jones 6'6" | SF Albemarle School | 2026 VA | 6’5” WF | Team Vizion
Jones is part of an Albemarle group that made a deep run to the state semifinal game this past year, and he’s following in the footsteps of his brother Derrick who was a standout and a division one player. Jones has a lot of natural ability and a lot of upside moving forward, with a great frame and good athleticism that makes him impactful on both ends. He can guard multiple positions and is a good shot blocker, he gives a lot of effort and plays with a consistent motor and he has a good base skillset that will improve with time.
