Jalen Rougier-Roane
About Jalen
Expert Analysis
Jam Hines | Prep Hoops Scout
Rougier-Roane displayed his two-way upside throughout the event. He confidently knocked down multiple catch-and-shoot three and pull-up jumpers during games and in the stations. Defensively, his defensive playmaking popped including a couple of one on one stops utilizing his length and quick hands.
With a strong showing here and earlier in the summer while representing Canada at the FIBA U18 Americas, Rougier-Roane seems poised to take another leap this season at Sidwell Friends.

Jalen Rougier-Roane had a nice day shooting the ball, especially early. He keeps getting better and better at it, and every time I see him, he looks like more and more of a next-level guard shooter. Jalen is great off the ball and does all the little things well. It feels like he never stops moving, and one of the things I liked about him was the way he interacted with “new” teammates. Jalen is a good driver and a solid defender, and he showed that by how he guarded opposing guards.

-Hitting shots with confidence and with range, knocking down six 3s— the last of which cut the lead to 1 just before the final buzzer. The microskills of moving to space, catching in triple threat, relocating when the defender turns his head, the consistency of the wrist snap in his shot, ripping through lower than the defender on drives to the rim— it’s coming together. Needs to learn to find guys on dribble pick-ups in the paint, movement skills are rounding back to form to serve as a versatile defender.

23p 5r 2s 1b vs John Marshall
-JRR carried positive momentum from his experience with the Canadian National Team into the DC Live weekend, showing that he is recovering well from a knee injury that forced him to miss the AAU season this year. He’s shooting the ball with confidence, scoring at the rim, causing havoc defensively, and getting his own within the flow of the game. He’s cut some weight and is moving well laterally as a result. He needs to clean up some turnover issues by keeping the ball high on drives and utilizing a retreat dribble more often, but his confidence and comfortability handling the rock shows a positive progression.

Another standout from the Sidwell Flint Hill game was Sidwell Friends guard Jalen Rougier Roane. Jalen was the player of the game, and he had a super-efficient night. He was automatic from three and made some tough shots. Whenever Flint Hill strung together a nice run, Jalen would hit a big shot or do something to crush any hope of Flint Hill of getting back into the game. He was also terrific on defense, guarding bigger players. Jalen finished with 21 points on 11 shots.
