Gibson has been a key cog for a 16u Team Sims UA Rise squad that’s going to make waves this season. They’ve already had quality wins over Expressions, Team Northeast, and a number of others, and the strong PG play from Gibson is a big reason why. The 6-foot-3 sophomore has the body of a college running back, so he completely discards players on his way to the rim and is a talented finisher at the hoop with his athleticism and toughness. His shot is hit or miss from the outside, but he’s a consistent paint toucher who makes good decisions for his teammates when he’s engaged and selfless. Gibson will start getting guarded a bit differently than he has in the past, so I’ll be curious to see how he responds to more defenders being thrown at him.

Gibson was phenomenal for Team Sims this weekend, especially in their first game against RI Elite. The 6-foot-3 combo-guard does an amazing job using his strength; he’s far too strong for most sophomore guards and consistently shows it on drives to the rim and rebounds. But he also makes really good decisions in the paint and knows how to set up his teammates for easy looks. He had some trouble with turnovers against BABC, but he was special as both a scorer and facilitator against RI Elite—he completely controlled the tempo of the game and put his teammates in advantageous spots. Gibson is a great candidate to have a massively improved role at Brooks next season, which could be spurred on by some big performances this spring.

Gibson is only a sophomore but you can’t tell by how physically gifted he is. He’s so strong with the ball in his hands and totally displaces guards who try to wall him up. He made multiple really nice moves into the paint and used slow, strong footwork to finish in the lane – being 6-foot-3 helps, too. The outside shot is still coming along, but his handle is very solid and he knows how to get his teammates involved. It’ll be interesting to see how Gibson continues to develop physically, because he has such a strong foundation of strength and athleticism.
