Herren, a guard out of the Wheeler School in Rhode Island, checks in at #9 among the point guards and #36 overall in this rankings update. The 5’10” guard plays way bigger than his frame would indicate and is ultra-competitive. He’s terrific at changing directions with the ball in his hands, plays with great small space quickness, and has nice burst and athletic pop as a finisher around the rim. His ability to see the floor and to create opportunities for himself and others off the bounce is already at a high level. Defensively, he creates steals and deflections at a high level and does a nice job of rebounding in space. Herren will run this spring and summer with BABC and recently announced that he will transfer to Worcester Academy in the fall.

Herren, a guard out of the Wheeler School in Rhode Island, closed out an impressive sophomore season by being named the Class C Player of the Year. Herren led Wheeler to the Class C semi-finals, where their season came to an end against the eventual league champions from the Bancroft School. The 6’0″ guard can really shoot the basketball, but impressed this year with his evolution as a decision-maker with the ball in his hands. He makes great reads out of ball screens, knows how to step behind screens to knock down shots, and generally, plays with a really high basketball IQ on the offensive end of the floor. His feel for the game extends to the defensive end of the floor, where he shows a good understanding of how to play angles and make an impact in passing lanes. He’ll run this spring and summer with BABC on the 3SSB circuit.

He is skilled, plays hard on both ends of the floor. A strong athlete for his size. Not easy to keep him from driving or getting loose balls. He can score from all three levels. Had a nice back turned to hoop coming off a screen 3 ball from the slot position. He gets to the charity strike a lot. Has two years left so I hope I can see his progress. He has the background and knowledge from people in his corner/family that will only make this kid more dangerous to play against.

Herren is the son of Fall River legend Chris Herren, and you can tell. The 5-foot-9 guard has incredible hops and was throwing down dunks in layup lines, but he also handles the rock quite effectively and shoots it very well from three. He has verve and rhythm to his offensive game, and he’s super fun to watch. He should be the star of Wheeler’s team this season and I could definitely see him continuing to run the show for BABC for the coming years.

Herren, a combo guard out of the Wheeler School in Rhode Island, is a multi-level scorer that makes teammates better with his decision making. He’s done a good job in the weight room, which shows in his ability to play through contact as a driver. He processes the game quickly and makes an impressive array of passes on the move. As a shooter, he’s consistent from behind the arc, both in catch and shoot situations and also when getting into his jumper off the bounce.
