Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
Vinson is a physically imposing guard who has some awesome tools. The 6-foot-3 lefty can score from all three levels and has a knack for using his strength while also being slippery in the lane. He has nice handles and spin moves in the paint, and he’s a solid passer when the defense collapses. He needs to refine his shot selection and figure out the best times for him to facilitate vs. score, but his on ball reps for Worcester Academy this season should help him in that regard, and he has the talent and feel to eventually figure it out. Vinson feels like a high D3 player to me, but that could change depending on how this season goes.

Vinson, a junior guard out of Worcester Academy, is back to his high scoring ways after missing last season with injury. In back-to-back wins over Mount St. Charles and Kimball Union, he registered 25 and 20 points respectively. The lefty can really shoot the basketball, proving to be one of the region’s better long-range shot makers. He does a nice job of moving without the basketball, makes quick decisions when he has it in his hands, and has some craftiness as a finisher around the rim. His ability to play on or off the ball and to operate as a high level decision maker seemingly opens up his scoring game.

Vinson is a well-rounded combo guard who can do virtually anything you ask of him. The 6-foot-3 junior has a super strong body, so he keeps his line well on drives and is a really good finisher at the hoop. The lefty can also make shots from long distance and is a talented, unselfish passer when the defense collapses. He was probably Worcester Academy’s best player against Albany Academy at the Prep Classic and should be garnering some scholarship looks.

Vinson, a prospect out of Worcester Academy, checks in at #38 overall and #4 among the combo guards. Vinson is a lefty that can really shoot the ball from distance. He has a quick first step as a ball-handler, knows how to manipulate defenders to get to his spots off the bounce, and scores with both touch and athleticism around the rim. He does a great job of moving without the basketball and is seemingly always ready to shoot the ball off the catch. With his height and length combo, he’s a capable defender on the other end of the floor, showing the ability to guard any spot on the perimeter.
