Expert Analysis

Perri was playing up this weekend and looked the part. The 6-foot-1 guard is super quick with the ball in his hands and is one of the better shooters in the region. He’s starting to get more lift on his shot, which makes him very difficult to contest, even despite his lack of size. He’s going to be the star of the Roxbury Latin School team this season, and he’s probably ready to play at the higher levels of the NEPSAC right now. I’ll be curious to see how he plays this year and whether his strength/body continues to grow.

Perri is one of the most skilled players in his class and will run the show for Roxbury Latin this season. The 6-foot-1 point guard has the ball on a string and handles full court pressure quite comfortably, but he also can attack the rim effectively with his mix of quickness, deception and change of speed. Perri’s superpower is probably his three point shooting, though; he gets elevation on his shot from three and is a dead eye shooter with tons of range. He has a legitimate chance to be Roxbury Latin’s best player this year, which is obviously very impressive for a sophomore. Kid is a competitor on both ends, too.

Perri is another underclassmen in the Roxbury Latin backcourt, but he’s only a freshman. Although he’s on the skinnier side – which is to be expected for a freshman in high school – he’s super quick with the ball in his hands and has the rock on a string. Even if you try to body him and take advantage of his lack of strength, he’s able to blow by you with a quick first step and a super active off hand. And, even though he didn’t make his threes against Rivers, I can tell he is a solid shooter – you can see it in his form and footwork. He pulls it together by understanding the game very well for his age, constantly looking for kickout passes and cutters.

Offensively shows all traits that will help him become a household name in New England. Deep or mid-range it doesn’t matter he can score from there. He possesses footwork on an experience player in rhythm while shooting. Footwork helps him dribbling with his shiftiness getting defenders off balanced and leading to open shots. He can also move smoothly without the ball in his team’s offense creating his own space to get shots off. His team ran a pretty backdoor play for him and lead to a layup.

Perri, who’s already made an impact at the varsity level for Roxbury Latin, is one of this class’s top lead guards. He’s a solid athlete that is a dynamic ball handler and quality decision maker in the half court. He’s starting to fill out his frame a little and continues to grow stronger. He makes good reads in ball screens, is a tough finisher around the rim, and can consistently knock down shots from behind the arc. He does a good job of pushing the pace in transition, proving capable of scoring or setting up teammates for easy baskets. Defensively, Perri is a quality on-ball defender that plays with a competitive streak and some grittiness. He’s first to loose balls and creates plenty of deflections and steals of his own. He should be a primary contributor for Roxbury Latin this winter and is a prospect to track over the coming years.
