I only saw Bayer play one game this weekend, but he was excellent. The 6-foot guard has a strong upper-body build, so he’s able to defend many positions and is quite effective as a rebounder on both ends. What surprised me the most, though, was the rising senior’s ability to knock down threes both on and off the dribble, something he has clearly improved on as of late. His size allows him to drive closeouts, too, because he keeps a good line to the rim and can finish well through contact. Bayer does all the little stuff and will probably be a nice glue guy for Kimball Union Academy this season—he’ll find a solid D3 fit after that if I had to guess.

Bayer, out of Kimball Union Academy in New Hampshire, checks in at #27 among the combo guards and #164 overall. In his first year in the prep ranks, Bayer has continued to show some of what made him a standout in the MIAA last winter. The 6’0″ guard is a threat to knock down a perimeter jumper any time he touches the ball, with good form and a quick release on his shot. He moves well without the ball, has the ability to get to the rim as a driver, and is a willing ball mover within the flow of the offense. Defensively, he can guard either spot in the back-court and plays with terrific energy.

Bayer really impressed with his ability to get into the lane and elevate for mid range jumpers. He has solid quickness and a good handle, but most impressive is his footwork in getting to his pull up. He can also finish with both hands at the rim, even with contact. Solid future ahead for Bayer, who’s only a junior.
