Ryan Svenson | Prep Hoops Scout
For our money the best “pure” point guard in the class of 2027. Thompson improved his shooting & scoring this season in leading Southridge to the Metro League title. He’s at his best when he’s breaking down defenses & creating wide open shot opportunities for his teammates.

1st Team
The Metro League player of the year, was the catalyst for Southridge’s run through the Metro League & the #1 overall seed. The versatile point guard, who demonstrated a much improved perimeter shot this season, should continue to garner D1 interest throughout the spring & summer.

The old adage of best player on the best team is the POY certainly applies to Thompson, who seems like the odds-on favorite for the award. The junior point guard took the reins of leading man for the league champ Skyhawks with plenty of poise and confidence, capably showing great balance in his own offense and setting up his teammates both down low and out on the perimeter. He not only grew physically but also as the de facto leader for a team entering the 6A post-season as the #1 overall seed.

put together a complete guard performance, finishing with a game-high 20 points. A relentless slasher and hard worker, he scores at all three levels and consistently converts at the free-throw line. Thompson balances scoring with playmaking as a facilitator and thrives in transition. His most impressive sequence came when he recorded a shot block, went coast-to-coast, and finished through contact for an and-one — a play that captured his competitiveness and two-way impact.

is a crafty, poised guard who consistently puts pressure on the defense by attacking the rim. He plays with great composure, makes strong reads as a passer, and shows a clear willingness to get his teammates involved. On the defensive end, Thompson is active with his hands, competes on the glass as a reliable rebounder. His all-around impact and steady play stood out throughout the tournament, and his performance was rewarded with an offer from Portland State — marking his first Division I offer and a well-earned milestone in his recruitment.

Thompson’s rise continued this off-season as he turned heads on the PUMA circuit. The 6-foot-2 Southridge junior has gotten more athletic but has continued to exhibit the all-around play on both ends of the floor that has started to earn him the college recruiting attention he deserves. The first scholarship offer should be coming for Thompson his upcoming year as he’ll be taking on a leadership role for a Skyhawks team aiming for a long run in the post-season. (JT)

There’s no question Thompson has taken his game to another level this off-season and that was clear at Elite Camp – and in a way that was organic and natural. The rising junior point guard didn’t need to force the issue to make an impact with his play, but rather did it within whatever environment he was in. Thompson was sharp with his shot, consistently made the right decision, created and passed with minimal turnovers, and gave great energy on the defensive end. His feel for the game and ability to make those around him better were two things observers pointed out about his performance. We recently chatted with Thompson to catch up on his summer and will be posting that update in the near future.

Impressing observers equally on the AAU circuit with Select Basketball and in June with his Southridge teammates was Thompson, who exhibited tremendous leadership and all-around play on both ends of the floor. There’s not much the rising junior couldn’t do as he hit open shots and got to the basket, consistently looked for open teammates, and locked down on defense. It’s puzzling how he’s yet to get his first scholarship offer but we’re confident the scales will be tipped in his favor soon.
