Kalish is a crafty and skilled lead guard that can push the pace of play in the open court, controls the pace of play with the ball in his hands, and finds ways to score playing on or off the ball. Kalish had a strong showing at Cali Live, leading his team to a 4-0 record and winning over St. Ignatius of San Francisco in bracket championship play. Kalish has a great handle on the ball, keeps it on a string to survey the floor, has the moves to shake his defender, using the crossover, hesitation, toss-cross, fade-away, and wrap-behind to get to his spots, is accurate with the mid-range jumper off the dribble, is a crafty scorer around the basket to evade shot blockers, moves well off the ball to find his shot spots, and is efficient with the 3-ball off the catch. Kalish has good court vision, makes precise passes to open teammates off the drive and kick pass or to the diver out of the pick and roll action, as well as up the court in transition. He has active hands, quick lateral movement to jump passing lanes or deflect passes to turn defense to offense.  

A classic glue-guy plus the past couple years for Southridge, Kalish may still defer to that role but has the abilities to be a leading man when called upon. So while his workman-like double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds was close to his norm for the Skyhawks in their win over Prairie, there were times when he took control and showed off a really good pull-up in the lane. A true team player, the rising senior also dished out three assists.

The evolution of the game of Kalish continues this off-season. The Southridge senior has always been a high-energy and physical guy on the defensive end who does all the little things, but with the Cascade Kings at the Super 24 we saw some assertiveness with his offensive game, both getting to the hoop and finishing and shooting the perimeter jumper.

Kalish, a skilled shooter, knocked down shots from the perimeter and mid-range with consistency. He’s a team-first player who brings energy, communicates well, and embraces competition. A solid athlete, he moves well on both ends and contributes as a capable defender. Nikko finished with 12 points, showing his ability to contribute within the flow of the game. Kalish’s toughness, vocal leadership, and willingness to compete make him a valuable piece and a dependable presence on the floor.

The talented combo guard does a little bit of everything for the Skyhawks. Some of his teammates garner more “love” at times, but Kalish is really the glue that holds them together. Versatile player that can play both guard spots, is explosive in transition, & really defends on the perimeter.

Nikko Kalish Nikko Kalish 6'0" | SG Southridge | 2027 State OR brought competitive fire and leadership to the floor, finishing with 11 points and 5 rebounds. A vocal presence who thrives on effort plays, he consistently chased down 50/50 balls and created extra possessions. Kalish rebounded exceptionally well for his size, generated second-chance opportunities, and ran the offense effectively. He also stepped up at the free-throw line when needed, rounding out a gritty, team-first performance.
