Wells showed why winning players stand out by doing all the little things that impact games. He crashed the glass hard, battled for rebounds and never hesitated to dive on the floor for loose balls. His effort level stayed high from start to finish and gave his team extra possessions. Offensively he repeatedly knocked down smooth mid range jumpers and also showed impressive range from deep this weekend. Wells brought toughness, skill and hustle every game, making him one of the most valuable performers on the floor
Despite a tough overtime loss, Drew turned in an excellent performance Saturday morning. He was great when pressuring the ball, forcing turnovers that lead to transition layups on the other end. He was tough to stop when he got downhill at full speed, being able to finish with either hand in a variety of ways. Wells is also a major threat from deep, connecting on triples off the dribble and off the catch.
We saw Wells multiple times this summer and again at Uprise, and he impacted games in a variety of ways. He battles on the glass, moves without the ball, and gets out in transition to pressure defenses. When his shot is falling, Eaglecrest’s spacing looks completely different. He’ll need to be an offensive presence for them to reach their ceiling and could quietly become their secret weapon.
Drew Wells had his first in-game dunk this weekend, and the entire gym felt his energy. A tenacious scorer, Wells found himself swerving through defenders and capitalizing on near-impossible finishes around the cup. A complete 3-level scorer, Wells is capable of dominating defenses that fail to contest.
Drew Wells kicked off his Tune Up debut with his first in-game dunk, but his development is what I noticed most. Wells takes care of the ball each possession and completes efficient passes whenever possible. With a jaw-dropping array of finishing moves at the rim, it’s hard to slow Wells down once he catches fire in a game.
Wells energy and hustle today were absolutely electric—it was like watching a guy who never stops moving. He’s got some serious hops able to get up there with the best of them, and he was relentlessly attacking the rim in all 3 games. Whether it was coming off the corner or slicing to the basket, he did it with such quickness and authority that defenders just couldn’t keep up. Every time he made a move it felt like he was about to make something happen, and it made him nearly impossible to stop today
