Expert Analysis
Duvalier Johnson | Prep Hoops Scout
Davenport was the JV team’s best player a season ago, and now with him earning more minutes, he’s doing all of the things that a coach needs to see more time on the court. He plays with effort and energy the entire time that he’s on the floor. He applies full-court pressure, uses his length to be disruptive, and also is a downhill attacker. He’s a versatile combo guard who has had his moments and has swung momentum at times. Stats do not tell it all with hi,m but he’s been a player who keeps Rangeview afloat.

. is one of the shooting guards I’m highest on this season. Able to attack the interior while raining down threes, Davenport Jr. has expanded his game to new levels. Featuring a shifty handle and impressive ball control, Davenport Jr. has no problem navigating through defenses to find open looks. Rangeview is coming off a piping hot season last spring, and Davenport Jr. will make sure they continue to thrive.

Davenport Jr. quietly impressed last season, leading JV in scoring and holding his own when he swung up to varsity. He’s a true combo scorer as he gets downhill, hits tough midrange looks, and spaces the floor with his outside shot. With Rangeview’s backcourt graduating, he’ll be looked at to provide instant offense off the bench and a spark. Don’t be shocked if he carves out a key role early as he’s proved that he’s more than ready.

Davenport brings a wiry frame and improving perimeter jumper to fit within a wide range of lineups. Particularly as the three point shot continues to progress, Davenport may be slotted onto many different matchups on the defensive end. Rangeview appears to be bringing in much more size this coming season, allowing Davenport to play against opponents at his size on the wing. While attacking downhill, he has improved his handle and in turn his decision making versus help defense. Effective making the extra pass if opposing help walls off the lane, Davenport looks to be a much more well rounded asset at the varsity stage.

Davenport has made strides as a complementary perimeter athlete, dependable on both ends of the floor. Showing strides as a floor spacer off the catch, opponents repeatedly had to rush into position to contest shots from distance. A smart downhill playmaker, the guard repeatedly found open slashers in the primary or secondary breaks. Defensively, his wide reach makes him a productive one on one defender, walling off the lane repeatedly. Simply put, the guard’s feel for the game has improved, opening up the rest of his abilities.

Davenport should provide value through his efficient, complementary impact. Effective maximizing his opportunities off a closeout, the guard should be a threat away from the ball. On limited volume, Davenport has flashed spot-up shooting ability from behind the arc.

Davenport is a player that can get after it on the defensive end of the ball and has the speed to get out on the break and get easy baskets in transition. He is a good on ball defender that can guard multiple positions and benefits from a fast paced tempo as he creates mismatch problem for his defender. He has a post presence and can finish strong on the inside through contact. He can also extend the defense stepping out behind the arc and knocking down the 3 ball on occasion. He will be a player to keep on moving forward with his inside scoring ability.
