About Archie
Expert Analysis
Duvalier Johnson | Prep Hoops Scout
Archie is a winner. The last couple of years, he’s been able to help lead his team to a deep playoff push as one of the most entertaining teams in the state, and this year, he elevated his game as the leading scorer and go-to guy. Archie filled it up as he put up 19.2 points, 4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. He played more as the lead guard, and that presented him as a scorer who made plays for teammates, finding the open man, and taking over at times. He set the tone for the season as he started the season on a tear offensively and then showcased the ability to manipulate the game. He gets to his spots, he attacks and knocks down the 3-ball. He’s an explosives 3-level scorer who is now daring opposing players to jump. He rounds out the Top-5

Archie Weatherspoon has been on an absolute terror all season long, embarrassing his defender and leaving opponents in a constant state of confusion. Featuring a lights-out jumper and unstrippable handles, Weatherspoon has his eyes set on the basket from the opening tip-off to the final buzzer. Adding 23 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals to the box score, Weatherspoon continues to showcase why he’s the best player in the class of 2027. His focus and dedication to his craft are inspirational, as he’s elevated himself and his teammates since he started his high school campaign 2 years ago. Weatherspoon’s progress has been exponential, and I guarantee you he’s not slowing down ANYTIME soon.

Duncan stuffed the stat sheet in Round 1 with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals, showing just how impactful he can be on both ends of the floor. His size immediately creates matchup problems, whether he’s posting up smaller defenders or attacking slower ones off the dribble. He finishes through contact, extends possessions on the glass and turns defense into offense with his quick hands and anticipation. Those four steals sparked transition opportunities and shifted momentum. If he continues to assert himself early, control the paint and disrupt passing lanes, he’ll be the engine that elevates his team in the next round

Weatherspoon will be the key to Rangeview’s success with the ball in his hands most possessions. He has a knack for making defenders miss off the bounce, breaking them down with quick moves and getting downhill. He finishes at the rim with acrobatic touch and creativity, even through traffic. If defenders sag, he’s comfortable pulling up for the jumper or knocking down the three, making him a constant scoring threat and tough cover all night

This 2027 class is special, and a prospect that we’ve seen grow each time out is Archie. Right now, he’s playing at such a high level and has his team looking like one of the contenders that can bring it all home. He’s been a core player from his freshman season, and as a junior, everything goes through Archie. He’s having a breakout season where he’s putting up 19.9 points a game. The ball is in his hands more; he’s reading what defenses are throwing at him and playing at his own pace. He’s thriving. He’s taken over as the lead guard, and the team has yet to lose a game in-state. He will likely hit the 1,000 points scored mark in the next few weeks and put himself in elite company at Rangeview.

Weatherspoon put together a strong 21-point outing, but it was his leadership and approach in a tough, low scoring game that really stood out. He played in attack mode, forcing the defense to collapse and created opportunities to either kick it out to teammates or finish at the rim himself. When the game tightened and his team needed a steady hand, he calmly sank six straight free throws to seal the win. His ability to take over in key moments while staying composed made him the clear go to player all night

has shown tremendous poise each trip down the floor this season, utilizing his lightning quick agility to attack the paint, often detonating on the rim at the defenders expense. Contributing 22.8 PPG on an efficient 52% from the field, Weatherspoon is a complete all-around scorer who continues to exude confidence each contest. What impresses me most about Weatherspoon is his composure in the clutch, never phased by the bright spotlight. The 6’3 all-pro junior will hit the ground running in 2026, and you should expect monstrous numbers during these next few months.

This was a highly anticipated season for Archie, as I feel that he was already on the cusp of popping onto Division I radars with his summer, and he did garner some attention from coaches. But what they will be able to come back to after the first week of the season should have him firmly on more radars. He’s putting up 29.7 points a game through 3 games. His usage has gone up, confidence has risen, and with that, his athleticism has looked better than it ever has with dunks in transition and traffic. He’s shooting the 3-ball, handling the ball, and making the right decisions and its almost time to have some uncomfortable conversations about where he stands in the state after what he’s done to begin his junior season. He’s the top player in the conference and has Rangeview looking like they could run the table.
