Expert Analysis
Eric Wallace | Prep Hoops Scout
One of the biggest stock risers in the 2027 class, Mitchell has elevated his game into All-WCAC territory and firmly established himself as a high-level prospect. He brings good strength and physicality to the wing, which complements his reputation as a sharpshooter. Mitchell consistently stretches the floor with confident perimeter shooting, forcing defenses to extend well beyond the arc.
Beyond his shooting, he has expanded his offensive package, showing the ability to attack closeouts, get downhill, and finish through contact. He plays with poise and a growing understanding of how to pick his spots within the flow of the offense. With his continued development, production against high-level competition, and upward trajectory, Mitchell has become a priority recruiting target for programs at the highest levels.

saw his stock rise a lot this year, and I love what he could give to a lot of programs at the next level. He is an elite shooter and the type of plug-and-play off-guard/wing that teams love. Brian took a hard fall at home against St. John’s about a week ago, and he didn’t look 100% against O’Connell. He still had a big game, hitting a number of threes and finishing with a game-high 21. He fouled out against St. John’s, but he hit a few threes to help kick-start PVI’s run to get back into the game.

One of the most improve ranking players in the country started out slow in the game. But he came on strong in the second half of the game knocking down two 3’s, provided defensive pressure and solid all-around effect on both ends of the floor. Finish the game with 10 points.

This PVI team is simply operating on a different frequency at this point in the season in comparison to any other team in the DMV and it’s showing with one dominant performance after the next. The addition of Mitchell Jr. has the argument of being the most valuable of the offseason and it’s a testament to his ability to space the floor, perform as a high-level connector and bring further defensive versatility. He’d finish this one with a modest 12 points and got there by scoring in a variety of ways, but it was his hockey assists, precise lifts to force the defense’s rotation and open up someone else on the backside as well as his fight on the glass to close down possessions that spoke volumes to me.

Paul VI is playing as well as any high school team in the country right now, and the emergence of Mitchell is the main reason why, outside of the heroics of five-star Jordan Smith. A last-minute transfer from Varina (VA) with varsity experience since 8th grade, Mitchell is coming off an injury-riddled spring and summer but has played his best basketball this winter as a consistent co-star to Smith on the perimeter. He slots in seamlessly as a dynamic off-ball catch-and-shoot threat with a polished skillset putting it on the deck past closeouts as a scorer or playmaker for others. Mitchell uses his broad, muscular frame to crash the glass and defend up the lineup in for an undersized PVI group. His blend of efficient scoring and cerebral floor instincts has begun to attract high-major attention as he stacks big performances under the national spotlight.

Another stage for Mitchell to continue his breakout since making the move to PVI. His long-range shooting, versatility defensively in being able to guard 1-4, and the connective traits that he brings to this Panthers roster has proven to be invaluable as they take on a daunting schedule. Mitchell had his moments to shine throughout the event and took advantage particularly in the win over Calvary Christian (FL) where he led PVI with 23 points and canned 4-of-6 of his looks from three. Mitchell has been nothing short of consistent since making the move to the Panthers and acting as the secondary scorer alongside Smith. It’s only right that he’s beginning to garner heavy interest from MM+/HM- programs.

Mitchell’s reputation has soared since suiting up for PVI as he’s proven to be one of the more prolific shooters in the DMV on the biggest of stages. The signs were there immediately as the 6-foot-3 guard torched the nets in our viewing prior to the season in a scrimmage against Mt. Carmel (MD). Since then, Mitchell has only added to the argument of being the most impactful transfer in the area. Over the last week alone, he had a strong outing in a win over Archbishop Stepinac (NY) where he scored 18 points. He followed that with a 31-point outburst against the No. 1 ranked team in the land in Prolific Prep (FL) and despite the loss in double overtime, he had college coach’s full attention. The next evening he went for 24 in a win over Archbishop Spalding (MD). George Washington, George Mason, and Merrimack have all extended offers over the last week.

Mitchell has officially put himself on national radars with his body of work over the last week. It started with his showing in a win against Archbishop Stepinac (NY) in a game that was televised on ESPU where the 6-foot-3 guard went for 18 points on four three’s and pulling down eight rebounds. He parlayed that outing with two very impressive showings at National Hoop Fest where PVI finished 1-1 with a win over Archbishop Spalding (MD) and a loss to Prolific Prep (FL). Mitchell’s efficiency from deep, two-way versatility, and toughness as a connector took center stage. Add the number of averaging an alarming 27.5 points per game this weekend and it’s only a matter of time before we see his recruitment take off.
