Mathey is on Newman’s second team, so he probably gets less attention than he deserves, but I love his game. I’ve always known he could shoot the ball—he has a super quick release and a compact, accurate shot—but I was impressed with his ability to drive closeouts and finish with athleticism and smoothness at the hoop in the Prep Classic. Against Green Farms Academy, he had multiple nice conversions at the hoop and showcased a well-rounded scoring game. D3’s should be very interested in Mathey’s size, length, and potential to put on weight and develop into a really great athlete.
