Expert Analysis
Delon Bowen | Prep Hoops Scout
Controlled guard who played with pace and tempo, never sped up while consistently dictating the game. Disruptive point-of-attack defender—applied steady pressure, made opposing guards uncomfortable, and stayed engaged off the ball with purposeful movement. Offensively, showed shot creation off the bounce, confidently getting to side-step threes. Highly effective in pick-and-roll—used his burst to turn the corner, read coverage, and make quick, decisive reads to create for others.

Ashe is another prospect on this New World team that has the opportunity to grab bulk minutes if he embraces being a true point guard. He played with much more controlled and effective pace to his game than I saw last prior to the high school season. If he continues to show how to play in this change-of-pace sort of attack, the burst that he has off his back foot will allow him to find driving lanes routinely as he did early here in this scrimmage. Slowing the game down mentally is also going to allow for him to showcase his vision, which he’s shown plenty of in the past when he’s equipped with a lob-catching forward or big.

-Ashe’s play continues to impress as a point guard that darts through the defense with relative ease to score at the rim or create for one of his teammates. Ashe started things off with a face up long 2, got two feet in the paint to drop off to his big for dunk, threw some beautiful alley oops in transition, showed the improved hops when he drove down the lane and punched with 1 hand, and had a key slashing bucket straight down the middle to preserve a 2-possession lead for the Lions. His feel as a point guard that pushes the pace in transition continues to improve with each viewing as he continues to grow as a facilitator that can also call his own number.

. The 6-foot lead guard is dynamic and can take what the defense gives him to establish advantages. He’s quick from the point of attack and when you combine his burst out of crossovers or counters, it’s tough sledding for his defender to keep him at bay for multiple possessions at a time. He’s a blur in the open floor and is always looking to put pressure on the rim before throwing a lob to one of his high-flying teammates. Ashe can also finish the job himself with creative layups if the situation calls for it. His efficiency as a shooter has improved from last season both off the dribble and spotting up, but his presence isn’t only felt on the offensive side. His ability to pressure the ball without fouling, actively anticipate in passing lanes and also help out on the boards from the point guard position all go into making his production vital to winning a tough PG County crown and beyond.

Ayden looks ready to flourish as a leading scorer/shot-taker for Largo this year. He will have the ball the most as a starting guard, so his decision-making will be the key to his success this year. Ayden has no problem breaking down the defense and scoring in multiple ways. Can be a good perimeter defender when locked into that side of the ball. His explosiveness and playmaking ability will be something to watch this year with his glorified role on the team. Key season in terms of his recruitment as his production will be the story.

Ayden highlighted a strong, reliable presence on both ends of the floor during the scrimmage. Ashe is a smart, solid combo guard who can do everything on the court. He showed the ability to hit jumpers, touch the paint, and create clean looks for himself and others. Ashe is active defender who forces turnovers on a regular basis. Next in his development process is working on the making better decisions with the ball, Ayden is solid get downhill driver and paint toucher. Also showed the ability to turn defense into offense with his quick instincts and constant energy. He showed the ability to score in various ways but was very unselfish with the ball in his hands. Ayden is a great cutter and off-ball threat, which allows him to apply pressure in spot-up scenarios.

Ayden is going to see his biggest opportunity this upcoming year with Largo as he should have more freedom with the ball in his hands. He is a quick guard that can dart to the basket off his first step. Becoming more and more elusive with his handle and can shake his defender up for space to fire a shot. Ayden’s pullup game in the midrange has improved year after year and I liked what I saw from him the summer. Strong performances game in and game out as Ayden scored in a multitude of ways. Always confident with the shot and has no problem taking critical shots in big moments.

-Shifty point guard that can score in bunches with a really quick first step and a developed midrange jumper. Ashe excels in transition and is improving his decision-making off the bounce to vacillate well between scoring and facilitating to open teammates. If he can add more weight onto his frame and use that scoring gravity to find open shooting opportunities for teammates, I would expect him to be one of the key names to know in PG County for a Largo team that reloaded well this offseason.

-Performed well in a nice win for Largo as a shot-making guard that did an excellent job of probing the defense. Ashe was getting to the rim a step before his defender but also made them respect the jumper with several smooth pull-ups from the elbows. Liked the impact that he had on the glass despite his size, timing his dives to the rim well to snag a few key rebounds to extend possesions for the Lions. Defensively, I like that he is staying home more defensively– waiting patiently for the offense to turn the ball over or over-balance so that he can get a steal or a block without fouling and initiate a fastbreak. Should play a big role for Largo this season as a starter.

-Shifty guard that was a good spark plug for the PG County champion Lions this past season. Ashe’s handle improved and he cut down on some of the turnovers that happened more frequently his freshman year trying to fit passes through tight windows. Ashe can knock down shots, attack closeouts, and really improved on his passing reads off the bounce over the course of the season.
