18p 8a 6r 5s vs Top Shot
-Probably the most well-rounded performance that I’ve seen from the blue chip guard in a nice quarterfinal win over Top Shot. White ran the offense masterfully in the halfcourt and in transition by threading the needle with several one-handed dimes off the bounce but also by making designed reads within the offense that led to good looks for his team. White scored on a few AND1 trips to the basket, threw several well-placed lobs in transition, back-tapped then ripped his opponent on B2B possessions for 1-handed dunks, and even threw down an alley-oop dunk of his own. His touch in the paint really stood out as a guard that plays with great pace, speeding his matchup up with assertive drives to the rim before changing direction or stopping on a dime to make the right play in the key.

Sunday featured a split session with the rising seniors playing at Lucas Oil Stadium while the rising juniors and sophomores were at the Pacers Practice Facility. This allowed for some guys like White to get the opportunity to play with the ball in his hands against similar aged competition and he found a rhythm on Sunday to close his weekend on the right foot. White started knocking down shots off the catch, a key skill for him as he usually plays next to other ball dominant guards on the court. I also thought White found it easier to get where he wanted off the dribble and was able to kickout to shooters for assists.

Brewster pulled off a marquee win in arguably the game of the weekend as their back-court was the star of the show on Sunday. White had an impressive performance as he had multiple and-1 finishes at the rim and played well off the ball as a cutter and closeout attacker. At the end of the game with Brewster down one, White drove baseline which brought help over as he dished it off to his teammate for a monster dunk with under 3 seconds left to win the game. A sophomore making a play like that to win a Nike Scholastic league game is rare and White was the guard trusted to make the right decision to win the game.

White, a guard out of Brewster Academy, impressed with his ability to make plays with the ball in his hands. This was my first in-person viewing of White and he didn’t disappoint. His demeanor is beyond that of his age, as he plays with great confidence, pace, and poise. He’s a crafty scorer that can get to his spots off the bounce, makes shots from behind the arc, and also delivers passes on time and on target to teammates in scoring situations. His energy is infectious and his commitment to the defensive end of the floor is also notable.

White is pretty electric to watch on the basketball floor. The quickness and burst on both ends just jumps out at you and is quite unique and rare. Defensively, he uses his high IQ, ridiculous speed, and incredible hands to be in every passing lane and be a menace on the ball, and then he’s off to the races once he gets steals. Offensively, he can score from all three levels and makes plays for his teammates effortlessly. The sophomore has no weakness (besides his size) and should only get better with more reps at this level.

White is a lethal, heady point guard known for his high basketball IQ and ability to control the game’s tempo. He’s a paced scorer who picks his spots efficiently, rarely forcing shots but always ready to attack. His craftiness and court vision make him a constant threat, both as a facilitator and a finisher. Defenders struggle to stay in front of him due to his shifty handle and smart decision-making.

Making a last-minute switch to the City Rocks and playing two years up on the 17U level, White showed no signs of discomfort coming off a winter in which he broke NJ’s state freshman scoring record. While he was forced into a heavy scoring load in high school, the young floor general looked comfortable running the show with a collection of high-level talent around him. In a blowout season-opening win, he got to his spots on command while showcasing an advanced degree of polish to his reads. He also set the tone as the head of the snake defensively with bothersome ball pressure, a must at the highest levels for a guard of his stature. While he doesn’t stand out from a physical standpoint, White continues to track as one of the best guards in the country within his class.
