Who are the top 20 guys in the section? What is our early thoughts on 2AAAA overall and where does this really talented group fit power rankings wise?

Section Power Rankings

Chaska - When you win a state title and return your top five scorers….. You then have the pressure of being the team expected to win it again. Are those expectations realistic? Not sure what the answer is there but I can tell you they have a great shot at winning the title again.

Prior Lake - With their top two players returning, good size, and a good group of up and coming guards Prior Lake has a chance to have a special season. Should have the best frontcourt in the section when it comes to physical and productive play.

Eden Prairie - won 18 games last season and I think they have the potential to win 18 again (or more) if they have the ball handler coming up in the system to get the job done. I think Davis is going to take a huge step forward.

Minnetonka - Tonka went young last year and I think they were better than people expected. I think they can flip that 11-16 record around at the least with so many good guards more mature.

Shakopee - This is a tough team to predict. They have their top three scores back but they only won seven games last season. They surely should double that win total at least but then again what was the issue last year? Tough to predict.

Chanhassen - What do they have at guard? They have a very good frontcourt with Barger and Johnson but the backcourt graduated so the JV has to fill in the gaps in the backcourt to win 16 games again.

Waconia - The Cats won more games last year than expected as they played better team basketball than expected (well coached). Can they surprise again? There are some good senior guards here but talent wise they will be looked down on comparatively.

Preseason All Section 2AAAA

First Team

[player_tooltip player_id='2126118' first='Tyler' last='Forrest'] of Chaska (Sr). Is he the best all around lead guard in the senior class? Made a great argument for it last weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126458' first='Luke' last='Schroeder'] of Shakopee (Sr). If I am a local D1 I am calling. He's the shooter you need.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126466' first='Kobby' last='Sambrew'] of Prior Lake (Sr). What a warrior. At some point his work rate will have him at the D1 level.

[player_tooltip player_id='2380768' first='Jamir' last='Davis'] of Eden Prairie (Jr). One of the best athletes in his class, a big year is expected.

[player_tooltip player_id='2140561' first='Benett' last='Barger'] of Chanhassen (Sr). Scored 17 a game last year, it's his team now so let's see what Barger can do.

Second team

[player_tooltip player_id='2433515' first='Kolby' last='Thompson'] of Prior Lake (Sr). Second leading scorer for Prior Lake last season at just under 17 a game.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126143' first='Kalin' last='Jochum'] of Chaska (Sr). All around athlete, all around player, don't forget his name just because he plays baseball in the spring.

[player_tooltip player_id='2126468' first='Blake' last='Betton'] of Shakopee (Sr). What he did at NHR State highlights what he could be in hoops if he wasn't the state's best football prospect.

Willie Wright of Minnetonka (Jr). Double figure scorer should be the Tonka top upperclassmen.

[player_tooltip player_id='2561052' first='Chase' last='Maetzold'] of Chaska (Jr). Top rebounder for the state title team also scored ten points a game.

Fourth Team

2AAAA Summary

Always my favorite group of teams and fans to make mad inadvertently. Waconia and Chan maybe low but they will be high when we talk Metro West. Prior Lake is a state contender but not one here. EP and Tonka are in a league where they can be picked in a spot in the section and league that isn't that different from their rank in all of Class AAAA!

Yes this is a tough section.

Chaska has to be the pick to win it as they have earned that right and have so much back. But I think AAAA is so wide open that they could be a top five team, have a good year, and not get out of the section! Prior Lake has a chance, EP has a chance, Tonka is going to take a huge step, and Shak has to be better (but they were upperclassmen last year, they should have been better).

Wide open group that I think could at some point next winter have four teams in the top ten at some point.
